My best guess would be the hep under the distriber cap. If it goes bad then it can't tell when to make the spark.

The hep is what tell the coil to spark if the hep ain't work there be no spark.

Depending on how many miles you have on you car and when the last time it got a really good tune up it may be time for a new timing belt and ignition system. On my Omni when I got it it had been owned by a very ignorant old woman for its entire life and she had never done any matenince on it besides the mandatory oil every 3 month(yes every 3 monthes not 3k mi). The first thing that went wrong was the ignition system, then shortly there after the timing belt snaped like an overstressed rubber band. It wasn't a bad bill but it was still more that what prevntive matenince would have cought. But by far the most difficult thing you will have to do is convince the wife that you really NEED to spend 400-600 dollars on a 20 year old car.
