Dynasty electrical problems
Here's the scoop: I have a '91 Dodge Dynasty, that's a K car, isn't it? Anyway, I have what I call a three day battery drain problem. Battery is new, charging system tested and working fine. But something is drawing power. I have pinned it down to a relay which becomes energized when you connect the battery, something which should not happen when the ignition is turned off. It is the relay for the electric transmission, at least it is labeled "elec trans". What is causing this and how do I fix it?
As it stands, it draws my battery down to about totally dead in three days. I've substituted the relay, and the new relay does the same thing. The power to energize this relay should come from the ignition circut, but for some reason it is getting powered up with the ignition off. Anyone ever heard of anything like this or have any ideas.? Thanks.<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley6.gif border="0">

Have you owned the car since new or did you buy it used? If you have owned the car for a while, I take it that this has just started happening? It sounds like there is a short in the wiring causing the continuous power drain. I have never heard of this happening before.

Dynasty electrical problems
I have had the car about a year. It runs amazingly well, strong engine, and doesn't burn a lick of oil, which I consider exceptional for a car with 150K on it. Evidently, it has had this problem since day one that I have had it, just never noticed it until recently as when I drive it every day that seems to be enough to recharge the battery. It is a relatively small draw and takes about three days for it to completely dicharge the battery, although I notice it begins to turn over pretty slowly after two days. I need someone with a book on this car to trace the coil circut of this particular relay, it could be there is a vacuum switch in the intake manifold or somewhere that controls it and has become stuck in the on position, or it could be a centrifigal switch, or eve a tachometer circut that controls it. If I could trace this I could possibly check any such switches and maybe replace it. Thanks, Don

Dynasty electrical problems
I have exactly the same problem, except mine's a '90 Dynasty. It's been going on about a year now, but seems to have progressed into draining over night. Have had the battery tested on 3 occasions and passes. I'm no mechanic, but I tried to narrow it down through the relays also. Iremoved one of the relays overnight and the battery would not drain. UnfortunatelyI have since forgot which one. This is the car my wife drives. We are now to the point of unplugging the battery each night. We unplug the cable coming from the battery into the box containing the relays. If you find out what the cause is, I would certainly appreciate the info.</P>
Thanks.</P>

RE: Dynasty electrical problems
You must have missed part of the first code, because the codes are all 2 digit numbers. I'm guessing that the first code is actually 12 and you didn't notice the pause between the 1 and the 2. This code just means that the battery has been disconnected within the last 100 key on offs.

RE: Dynasty electrical problems
Hi, I realize this is a very old post but maybe I can help somebody anyway. I have had this 3-day drain on a couple of Dodge vehicles and both times it was the radio. Anyway, this is something very easy to disconnect and check. It is 1 of the few systems that is always powered (for the memory) and if it shorts inside it can increase the draw.
Obviously there are many other things that it can be. Let me know if you have found the culprit or if anyone else has a solution.
Good Luck.

RE: Dynasty electrical problems
my '92 chrysler dynasty is having the same problem ( i call it a brain tumor ) but yeah, the problem is probably to do with a weak battery....obviously....but because there are so many electrical features the battery dies faster than other vehicles. for ex, i would NEVER turn on the radio in my dynasty unless the engine was turned on as well.....even leaving the door open for a few minutes weakens the battery. also, if the "check engine " light flashes when your car dies you should check for a possible oil leak. the dynasty wasn;t meant for new-age stereo systems either, so that can cause the battery to weaken, which means that the rest of the car is trying harder to function properly causing other malfunctions, such as my last adventure in ABS problems (long story, limited braking, signals screwed up) . it's a delicate but very powerful car. try going to a mechanic and having them check the trouble codes, and oxygen sensors. but yeah, chrysler just loves to make vehicles that are hard to live with yet so hard to live without. does anyone see where i'm going with the battery thing? i'm not too good at explaining things, hope i am making some sense. kay, somebody write me back, i need to talk about my car with someone who knows the pain and feels the love!
