1989 Fifth Avenue Lock Cylinder Replacement
Hello Folks,
I'm posting this for my father-in-law. The ignition lock cylinder came apart on his 1989 Fifth Avenue and he needs to replace it. He has the Chiltons repair manual but there is no info on replacement of this thing. Could someone lead him in the right direction (even a step-by-step ;0). He was told that the cover comes off and the lock cylinder can be removed after this.
How does the cover come off (snap fit and if so where)?
How does the old lock cylinder come off?
Thanks for all your help
Jay

I don't know the particulars about the Fifth Avenue, but I've replaced ignition lock cylinders on other makes and models. All of the cowls on them had screws located on the underside to remove them (2 pieces - top and bottom). If you buy a new cylinder, most likely it will have a general diagram and instructions. With the key inserted, you can compress a pin on the bottom of the steering column that actually retains the cylinder and with the key turned, you can pull out the entire mechanism. Then, just reverse the process with the new ignition lock cylinder. Hope this helps you out.
