Default Life In Michigan?!?

There is a slight possibility that I may have the opportunity to work in Detriot. I'm from Toronto but my wife has family in Windsor. I am wondering if life there is as good and easy going as it is here. Will I get shot? Beat up? I'm only a white Canadian guy, is this advisable? Can anyone tell me where to find a listing of houses that are for sale in the state? Don't take offence to anything I've said above, but we have out sterotypes of Americans too, and no, I won't have to sell my Igloo........I can rent it to my brother.

You might want to post this in the midwest section on the bottom, in my opinion Michigan is probably the greatest state to live in, w/ so many different areas and sights to see! I will never move away from the state!

Is there an easy way to move it there? Never thought of putting it in there!

Would you actually live in Detroit... or just work there? Whereabouts in Detroit is this job?

I think the position is at Chrysler as a tech geek. I think the job is in Detriot, but I don't think I could handle living there. I'm a country boy. I'd have to find something on the outskirts for sure.

Michigan is a good place to live. Like Bob said, there is plenty to see and do. I lived there when i was in the USAF back in the early 80's. I absolutely loved the fishing up there, and kind of miss it now.

I think you'd be fine then... I personally would be nervous living in Detroit... only if it was in the worst parts. There are some AWESOME cities really close to Detroit with really low crime rates. Working in Detroit isn't bad... especially at one of the big three's plants.

Well that's the plan right now. Hopefully I can find some work there and Ideally I'd like to keep living in Canada. Windsor or something. Might be a long drive but the exchange rate that I'd get on the money would be fantastic! I think $60 000 US becomes close to $78 000 CA. That would make life more fun!

Barring that, I've played hockey in Ann Arbour, Inkster and some other towns, but I might like to get farther away from the city. Any ideas? Are they too far? I wouldn't mind driving a half hour or even an hour in the place and price is right.

Thanks all for the input!

All depends on where you are going, if you are going to be a techy, then you are probably going to auburn hills michigan. Very nice part of town. There are only three plants left in the city of detroit, jefferson north assy, mack engine I and mack II. They are on the east side of the city. So you could stay north of detroit off of I94 and go into the sticks. If it is the tech center, (auburn hills) look into north oakland county. Plus it depends how much you got to spend. But whatever you DO NOT BUY A HOUSE IN DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just trying to help!
