i put off getting my cobra for a while , but i am sick of all these lil ricers out there , please talk me into getting an srt-4 . i am interested in the car , but am not going to do many mods , as i have had a 99 miata with over $9000 in mods , i need a car to **** on them with in mostly stock trim , am i headed in the right direction? i am 35 yrs old and a state law enforcement officer , would this ride be right for someone like me ? PLEASE HELP , as it seems most of u know your sh*t . and i know i will benefit from all of your advice . thank you

We have PLENTY of members here kicking other cars butts in their mostly stock SRT-4's so they'll be able to help you decide.

new Cobra = what, $35,000

next Cobra is not out till 06 (with new body style) so you have to wait for it...

SRT-4 = $23,000 out the door (tax, title, etc. for mine at least)
faster than most Stock Mustang GT's, almost as fast as an 01 Cobra... and this is a stock SRT4 mind you!

the 03 and 04 Cobras have extremely high production #'s even for the Cobra...

The SRT will not be produced after the 05 model year!

four doors, moon roofs, and this weird feeling everytime you shut down a "fast" car that you are driving "just a Neon"... hehehe... I had the same problem you face, a Cobra - or an SRT4... I would have bought an 01 Used Cobra had I found one, but I am happy with my SRT everyday! hope this helps!

Go for it. It's a great car in stock form. My wife drives a 2002 Mazda Miata Special Edition without any modifications. The SRT's handling is not as good as the Miata, but to match the power would be an expensive mod for the Mazda. Go and test drive one if you haven't already done so. The seats are very racey (ala Dodge Viper) but can take some getting used to if your a little wide in the caboose. The bottom part of the seat is kinda narrow. This car is very quick and begs to be driven to it's limits. I've only been driving my SRT for a week now, but cannot count how many close calls from getting a ticket because I just can't drive this car slow. I too, am 35 and I am finding myself being pretty dang irresponsible in this beauty. Oh well, it's nothing my wife can't cure.

This is in my area but stock i beat 95% of all the ricers in my area. Unless they have alot of high dollar mods in there car the civic crx prelude del sol etc.... can not come close to the power of this car. Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure this is just about the fastest 4 banger you can buy for the money. I got mine for 20$ out the door, i have no complaints and i love the people having that its just a neon mentality they pull up to you at a light rev on you talk loads of smack then get blown out of the water. They either turn so they dont have to pull up to the next light with me or they leave there window up and look striaght in front of them not saying a word

 

i love mine... havent put to many mods on and ive only lost less than a hand full of races to much more expensive cars. and i just got challenged today buy a car, he didnt stand a chance and at the next light his friend in the passenger seat was like "you got a hemi?" and i just laughed... then hes like "dude is that a neon?" and i smiled real big and said sure is.. then drove off. and a woman in her early 20's was next to me at a stop light and i was just chill driving and she threw a rev and when the light turned green she took off, i got to 3rd gear of normal 0 boost driving and she was looking back all happy so i down shifted to 2nd and blew her out of the water and only went to 4k in 3rd gear... and at the light she looked like i hit her dog... i just laughed it was good fun.

 

thank all of you for the input, i test drive the srt-4 at 4:00. i am bringing my wife and 2 daughters with me and also the 2 baby seats for the test drive . after the drive , my best friend and i will do a see what the hell this suckers got drive , ill let you all know the results . if i get 1 , i cant do it till i get back to work from surgery . that wont be untill the end of october. my friend told me to go to forums , and he said you all know your sh*t . i hope to have good news for you all , i wanted the car so much , that i wanted you all to talk me out of it , thanks , i should hate u for this , but i cant , i feel like im where i belong . i am a ford fan for ever , but i can take the advice of a few friends and give it a try , thank you for all of your help . btw , dodge girl , love the truck

p.s would silver be an acceptable color , i have to make the wife happy , and she says silver makes it look like a family car

 

Expect to get some strange looks from your fellow police officers when they find out what you're driving and how fast it is!!! I've had mine 9 months and barely a day goes by without someone in the department bringing up the subject of my SRT-4.....

 

its good to have a brother among the poeple i can trust. i realy want to be a part of this srt croud , you all seem so far away from the import tuners im used to
