Default "Popped a Sensor"

Well, I had my quality issue with DCX today while shutting down some clown cowboy in a ford pickup.....I'm taking off from a stoplight with John Wayne beside me and he wants to race, so I accomidate him by giving it about half throttle. The SRT-4 surges forward, whistling and sounding good when all of a sudden I hear a "pop" and the engine slows down and the engine noise goes from a whistling-jet to just a low "whoosh" sound. I knew SOMETHING was wrong, and probably in the airbox/intercooler line. Looking at it when I got home showed a "hole" in the I/C hose, just above center and a little to the right in the pix, where the sensor had once been. 2 hours of trying to stick that SOB back in met with no results, something else may have popped off and fell to the ground as I was driving...I'll probably put some duct tape over the hole till Monday when I take it in for them to fix. The car runs OK, but is down on power with that hole in the I/C hose...just a FYI, there's a film of oil inside the I/C air line as well.....[:@]

That sucks Jim. You probably still beat that truck even with your car running at half power. HAHA. Duct tape fixes anything almost, go get it fixed. Hopefully thats all that is wrong with it.

Yeah Dave, I was so far ahead of "John" that I just coasted down the road while I tried to figure out what happened. Heck, we've used duct tape to "handcuff" rowdy students from a nearby university at my PD!!!! Great Stuff!!!!

The oil in the I/C line kinda bothers me since the OCC was supposed to take care of that....and it's fresh oil, not old or dirty. Maybe my oil change last week and the fact that I just emptied my OCC has something to do with it....

Haha, used it to hand cuff students. Thats awesome. By the way Jim, I've read over on neons.org about neons puking oil out the breather. Is that what the catch cans are for? Should I have one? I just don't quite understand it.

I'm taking it in first thing Monday morning. It's still driveable but there is definite drop off in the power....

Intake temp sensor, theres a rubber grommet that holds it in.

Conflicting info, one says it's (the grommet) part of the pipe, another says its part of the sensor. Another guy said they got a multi pak from Autozone that had a grommet that works fine, no more info on that. Report back

Thanks glhs837!! I figured there had to be a part missing, I tore the heck out of my hand trying to get that silly sensor back in, but no go. I'm going to still make the appointment with the dealer just to see what kind of song and dance they give me about this, especially since I've got the mods. Now I'm excited, got a chance to do some "undercover" work for a change!!!

I WILL report back..........[sm=icon_cheers.gif][sm=icon_rock.gif]

Here is the bad news, if it does it once it will do it again. There is no good fix only a simple one, tie it up nice and snug with a zip-tie..its the only way. had to do it with my ATP pressure pipe, so thats not the fix either. Someday someone will put out a real fix untill then, mine cost me .10 cents.

Judging by your picture it would appear that your rubber grommet is missing. I have my new pressure pipe, I just need to install it. I don't think they'll give you any problems replacing a cheap little rubber ring like that.
