mold smell
We usally dont have a mold smell problem with the ac on C-5s, there water seperators work really well and just send the water overboard, we usally get a worse smell from the galley or lav from the flight crew leaving somthing laying around. as for srts i had a funny smell the first few months i used my a/c i dont know y but its pretty much gone. it smelled like gym socks.
i do have another question about srt a/c... ive noticed just in the last few weeks when i turn on the a/c and it takes about 5-8 seconds to kick in and when it does the car just bogs out for a second and i was wondering if anyones else did this? this is pretty new cause i think i would have noticed it earler.

I doubt it. The a/c on mine has virtually no effect on the engine that I can notice except making the engine heat up faster and run hotter than it already does.
I'm certain that the power numbers are lower when the A/C is on, it's just not noticeable driving around town. If I "run" against anyone, I always turn off all accessories anyway, (except for lights at night)...every little bit helps.
ok gilles....I got the perfect solution for you. The reason why its smelling like that is because condensation forms inside the evaporators housing, and that causes mold to grom there since its so dark and humid in there. Try this, press the ac button to turn it off, use the fan on its highest setting for about a day or two or however long it takes for the smell to go away. If you find something that kills mold or is anti humidity like a spray or something put the system on recirculation and spray some of it where the vent is. I recomend you leave the windows open. The whole purpose of leaving the ac off is so you wont form anymore moisture inside while you're trying to vent out the system. After that you should ALWAYS use the recirculating mode. If you use the recirculating mode the system wont collect moisture from the outside and that wont happen again, not to mention it'll cool a lot faster and better. Hope that helped you out.
The A/C does take up a bit of power from the engine, more while it's on of course, but it is robbing you of horsepower as long as it's on the car. The stock mounts are soft enough to absorb any of the bogging caused by the A/C compressor while it is on. If you install motor mount inserts you will then notice the bogging every time the compressor kicks in and out while it is on. I noticed quite a difference in mine after I installed the Prothane race inserts and I also noticed it on my R/T with it's Rex inserts.
