Sport Compact cars project srt-4
In the latest issue of sport compact car they install stage 2 and give some pretty good info to those with aftermarket parts and such. They have the dodge tuner guy with his computer thing that actually set the tuning for the srt-4. It's a good issue and really convinced me to get stage 2 with toys. Check it out!
The guy referenced is none other than Ethan Bayer, part of the SRT team and also Mopar Stage kit development engineer. Good thing he was there to explain the dyno results by showing them the datalogs. Also there were Dale Seeley of One Lap and Scott from Maxxfab.
Lone, the toys are the option part of Stage 2. Quick and dirty.
1. Racegas switch = + 20 whp to 380 by using 100 octane fuel (or water injection to control detonantion)
2. Dial-A-Boost = four setting switch that allows the on-the fly selection of either of two drag race launch modes (tri-stage boost levels set by gear) or two dropped boost levels (7 and 12) for low traction or training scenarios.
3. Intercooler sprayer = +5whp bump from better control of intake temps. Controlled either by manual selection or by the computer using sophisticated algorithms to head off increased temps by spraying before temps get to high

I picked up that issue last night, but I still need to read it. They also have a list of their choices for the best sport compact cars ever and the SRT-4 is in at #16. They do however show how poorly their magazine is controlled with their best sport compact cars ever article, most of their list are cars that are sports cars and not sport compact cars, last I knew the Acura NSX is a $60,000+ sports car and not a compact, nor is a Lotus.[:@]
Hell, they listed the 87 Omni GLHS for cruds sake!!!!!!!
(for those not nuts about 80s turbo dodges, there was an 86 Omni GLHS and an 87 Charger GLHS) Only 500 of the Omni, and 1000 of the Charger)

i'd buy the lotus (as being a sport compact)- particularly the late 80's early 90's esprits since they were 4-bangers. but the nsx? i don't think so...[sm=forgetit.gif]

The Lotus being a 2 seater with a 4 banger makes it officially a sports car and not a sport compact, even though it is about as small and light as a car can possibly get. I would love to get a Lotus Motorsport Elise, now that is a fine peice of machinery.

They list the GLH and GLH-S because they are great sport compacts, they can still beat the majority of the new sport compacts out there today. That doesn't mean that I like the way they look though

so would you call the s2000, del sol, and miata a sports car or sport compact? just curious. i've always considered them sc's, but i never really thought about the 2 seater issue.
And so begins the sport compact debate. Here are my two cents if anyone cares haha...
When i think of a sport compact i think of an affordable car that is easy to tune and make faster/perform better than a car that would cost twice as much. With that in mind there are some exceptions. Now at first there were a couple of guys messing with some hondas, acuras, and a couple nissans. "Underground" This all comes mainstream. Its looked upon as the second coming of motor heads. When Detroit muscle cost nothing to own and throwing a blower on one was insane. A true sport compact i believe sould be left looking as stock as possible. If you choose to make it look all "hooked up" it better damn well go that fast. Is the new Lotus a compact and a sports car??? By definiton yes. Would i rather buy a Corvette (sorry i know dodge forum) for the same amount.. hells yes. There inlies the question. I believe the Lotus is to expensive to include. The NSX is a waste of time and money. Would much rather own a Viper (the true bang for the buck) for the same cost. Plus the Viper won't lose its value as fast. I would set my cost maximum set at an S2000. Any thing below that in the "sport ", "compact" market should be fair game. BUT WE ALL KNOW ITS WHO CROSSES THE FINISH LINE FIRST THAT MATTERS.
Tune on SRT-4 owners, because only one company made the right car for the right price and supplies the right products and information to make you go faster than anyone else.
