Default the red sled won today at etown

so a huge congrats to n2mb/dcr and kevin for taking their first wally at etown today. the win wasn't how they wanted it to happen, but hey a win is a win i guess.

kevin had a best run today of 9.86@143!!!! he finally broke into the 9's with two back to back 9.9 runs yesterday, and another 9.9 and 9.8 today. the finals were a bit of a disappointment, the tranny broke around the 1000' mark so it wasn't a great pass and he ran a 10.1@141. the car was set to pull a mid 9s run, as the car he was running had been doing 9.4's all day. he actually lost to johnathan reynolds in the final (he ran a 9.5@166 or so if i remember correctly) but was then dq'ed for illegal turbo in the post-race inspection. sucks that it happened that way but then by default kevin got the win. this also puts him in the lead in the points race.

the dcr team had another round of bad luck and the tranny went saturday on them and in the process took out a lower control arm. so they didn't run sunday. i was looking forward to seeing mike pull another 7.9 but that will have to wait for atco i guess.

here's a few pics that i stole from hozay.....

1st of all, congrats to all involved. Now my curiosity is piqued.
So now 20 questions;
1) what trans are they (Kevin/N2MB/DCR) be specific please?
Remember, we dont all know who Kevin/N2MB/DCR are. N2MB and DCR are 2 seperate companies right? Joint effort? Sounds like DCR also had a car of thier own. What tranny did they break? Same as Kevins? I'm guessing these are the autos that DCR builds. Not putting them down 'cause I know they are in uncharted territory and that **** happens. Was it the same part that broke?
2) what constitutes an "illegal" turbo?
3) what class are they running in?
4) are all the times your talking about SRT-4's? If so/not what car is the Mike with the 7.9 running? What engine/trans and mods?
5) what car was Johnathan Reynolds running?
This is big news to all us small money yokals her in Kalamazoo, where I have the 2nd fastest SRT-4 at 13.6 at Martin and the fastest is my buddies who has same stage but better tires (dr's) at 13.3. Sad huh? And there are a few stage 3's running around but they will not go to the track. Sad again.I hope to be the first into the 12's with borrowed slicks. Still sad, I know LOL.
So I am not being nitpicky, just curious as to what it takes to get those kind of times. God I wish I could spend that kind of money on my car.
6) where can I get an illegal turbo? Ha ha ha!
Good job guys!

ok i'll clarify....

1. the tranny that both cars are running is the auto conversion that dcr (daryl *** racing) builds.they are not sure what the issue is, this is the same tranny that mike ran a 7.9 on so the power on kevin's car shouldn't be a problem for it. daryl is working on figuring out what the issue is on both cars.

dcr and n2mb are seperate, but kevin's car is a joint effort. dcr build the motor and tranny for the car, n2mb put the car together and tunes it.

mike = mike crawford of the dcr race team
kevin = kevin van natten of n2mb

2. an illegal turbo in the sport fwd class is anything over 72.4mm. this class is limited in terms or turbo size, motor size, tire size, etc. after each race the winner much go through a post-race inspection, and we're guessing that the trap of 166 was what made them take a look at the turbo. he trapped a good 15-20mph higher than just about everyone else in the class, and was running almost .5s faster. a good tune goes a long way, but that probably made them a little suspiscious and they checked the turbo. not sure of the details though as to what size he was running, only that it was illegal.

3. kevin runs in pro fwd class and mike runs in the hot rod class.

4. both teams are running srt-4's with different set ups due to differences in class regulations.

5. johnathan reynolds runs a 2001 integra.

6. call n2mb or agp lol

hope that clarifies some of it...

oh here's the link to the results page for the day....

http://www.nhrasportcompact.com/2007...lts/index.html

there were some very impressive cars out there yesterday too. the all motor class was sick with pulling some low 9s passes, and the pro rwd is always a good race. records were broken and set again yesterday, it was just a great day as always. anyone in the area i definetly suggest coming out to fall nationals at etown in september, that's usually even more impressive with records broken that day. just get there early, it's packed. the pictures above you only see the opposite side of the stands where no one really sits, the side that we were on had every seat taken and the wall was standing three deep, and there were plenty of people in the lots still with the bikini contest, car show, scion racing, audio competition, and whatever else was there was going on out there. it's definetly worth the trip for the day! on saturday a plane even tried to land on the drag strip haha!!!!! always exciting

Thanks Amy that pretty much answers everything. You're a sweetie.
These forums are the only way I ever hear of such stuff. So keep me/us posted.
We dont have enough of any kind of fwd's to warrant a regular class here that I know of. (I very well could be wrong) but I dont think I am. It's still kind of Mullets and Mustangs around here. Plenty of fast v-8's to be sure. Fast sport compacts arent that common and when I do go, I rarely ever see another SRT-4. Have yet to see a Coballt SS or Ion Redline run. I usually am vastly outnumbered by Subies and Mitsu's which are almost always AWD. My friend with the SRT (who just bought it) I mentioned, is actually in a points race this year and I'll have to find what class it is, but I'd guess it to be just about anything with a turbo or any kind of "sport compact" or some other loosely described thing that would have you racing all kinds of weird **** like fully built evo's. We do get some notables though. Like there's someone with a really fast MR2. It runs like 11's or 10's. Still has the yotor motor in back. We have a few reclusive rich dudes that have these kinds of "one off oddball" cars that only come out to play a couple of times a year and then you never see the car again. Weird.

well this is NHRA sport compact racing, it's all over the country not just in this area. i think the closest it will come to you this year is indianapolis, not sure just how far that is for you but it might be worth the trip if it's not rediculous. both teams should be at both the races there, august 18-19 and september 1-3. it's always a good time at these events.

from what i understand too, at the other tracks it's not nearly as crowded as it is here at etown or at atco which is why drivers love coming to these tracks as the stands are packed! but at the same time, it's harder to talk to the drivers and crew because of so many people. it's worth it to see at least one of these events, just to see in person how fast these cars really are.

I'm hoping to catch DCR when they come out to Pomona in October do you know if the Red Sled is planning on being there?

I thought about going to Vegas, but I'll be vacationing in Colorado that week; besides I'm just not interested in going to Vegas... too many worldly temptations.

Yeah Indy is about 3.5 hrs away. There are no NHRA tracks in Mi. which explains that. Martin used to have a sport compact event, but I saw on the schedule this year that there is none. As far as my buddy's class, I havent talked to him, but he can only run in either street or modified. That's the only 2 classes they have.
The fastest Neons I have seen in person, were at Norwalk last year at the Midwest SRT get together. I think most were low 11's but there may have bee a 10 second car I just dont remember. In fact, I do think that the fastest car there was a 1st gen with a big turbo and nitrous. He may have been in the tens. I believe all were still manual trans cars as well.
I may have to go to Indy this year.....
