I Finally Broke Something!!!
Well - I was cleaning my car today - popped the hood to give it a quick once over... and notice something odd...
Take a look... see if something looks funny to you??

Here's a hint:

Did you guess right?? Give up??
I snapped one of my upper motor mount bolts...
I have no idea how (I mean, I know how the bolt sheared.... I don't know when or how I was driving to cause it)...
Anyway... I guess my real problem is the bolt sheared off at the block (or is that the head?... anyway)... I have to figure out how to get the remains of the bolt out and put a new one in without chewing up stuff... it only took 3 years for me to break something... and it's this... HA!... I consider myself lucky... this sort of puts a damper on me wanting to drive until I get it fixed...

pretty neat huh? what's odd... I'm not even mad about it... ha-ha...
I wonder if I broke it when I had to do an evasive lane change at 75-80mph the other night to avoid hitting a possum...
I was just getting on to the highway when the little devil walked right out in front on me... it was either swerve (which I know is typically the wrong way to handle it)... or hit the dumb thing and take out my NEW intercooler and front fascia... I decided to swerve... thank God I have the suspension and tire upgrades - I don't know if a stock car would have handled that (maybe??)... anyway...
the funny part... not more than 5 minutes later I had another possum walk out in front of me... luckily I was off the highway at this point and saw him with plenty of time to slow down... twice in one night...
I don't know if that snapped the bolt... but I am sure it put some funny loading on parts...

suicidal possums news at 11 yo close call dude consider yourself a lucky guy you coul have either hit the poor little guy or fall to the fats like some people i know to them bedamned geico squirrels and **** that run out onto the road purposely then give each other pound and hide again. Get that srt4 back on the road safely take it to the dealer if you can.
where did the bolt snap at? if it's in the metal piece that's attached to the motor you can just remove that and back the bolt out. if it's snapped in the motor itself you're gonna have to tap it out.
at least you only snaped the stock bolts, i managed to snap a 12.1 grade.....

my speed sensor shorted out and the car was bucking like a angry bull. i had to drive it to get it to the shop so i could get it on a lift and see if we could figure out what the hell the problem was. during the drive down to the shop the bolt snapped. it was obviously caused by the violent bucking, but i'm not sure if the bolt backed out and caused it or it just snapped. i got new bolts and it's been good since, and that was something like three years ago

What motor mounts are you running Amy? I forget for the life of me....
On that note - how bad is the vibration in the car? I figure - these are the same stupid mounts they use on the stock Neon's... a few extra ponies are sure to break things... maybe it's time to upgrade... I just don't want to make sure I don't totally jack up the NVH since the I drive the car on the street...

i actually have the old psi-fi mounts.....yea they're that old lol. the agp's are basically the exact same thing though. they're pretty still when you first put them in, but give it a week or two and the poly starts to loosen up and it's not really that bad at all. i don't even notice the vibration at all, only time that it gets noticable for me is when i turn the a/c on, which is rare since it doesn't work lol
Hmmm... so from the stand point of a car that is street driven and not raced (for now)... do you think it's a bit much? I still use my A/C from time to time... or do you think the inserts are a better option?
The big fear I have with new mounts - they are designed to take up some of the vibration and load... if you mount something stiffer in there - - another part has to take that force / load...
I guess still - - job #1 is to remove the broken bolt... ha-ha...
