Default Short Throw Shifter

Hi, just wondering what peoples' opinions are on the mopar short throw shifter for the SRT-4.

Does it make a significant difference in the overall operation of the vehicle or is it a waste of cash?

What all is required in the installation of said shifter?

I have it and love it. I have heard that since it just sits in a different pivot position it's not actually a shorter throw. And since it's stiffer than stock your effort to shift won't save time. Don't quote me on that though. Would I do it again? OH YEAH!!!!. What's required. Some use the booger bushings. I don't have them. It's a 15-30min job. Worth the money IMO.

Like byebye said, it won't really save you any time performance wise since the laws of physics won't let you get away with making the shift throw shorter and easier at the same time. The folks at www.modernperformance.com who sell these have an informative article about them on their web site, it helped make up my mind.

have it and like it. since it makes the shifts more mechanical it may be a bit harder to move from gear to gear but i have no problem makeing a fast shift at 5900 or 6000 with out worry of messing up. install is easy, id get it again.

a guy that i was talking to at ennis, tx (texas motorplex) had a bad *** srt-4, besides all the mods he had in it, he also had the short shifter, and said that it had actually improved his 1/4 mile time by 2 tenths, i thought that was kind of impressing [sm=smiley32.gif]. but thats just me.

I love mine. I have noticed that it shifts a little quicker for me, the added resistance had little to no effect. It feels great and install is a breeze. All you need is a phillips head screw driver, ratchet, extension, socket and claw end of a hammer (very useful in removing the black cable retaining clips). Takes very little time and effort.

have it, love it. it is a short throw- that's how short throws work, by moving the pivot postion. there is more effort, but i disagree w/ those who say the increased effort takes away any gains. i take mine to the track every couple weeks, and the short throw is good for a tenth or so, imo. spend the extra mcdonald's money and get the boogers- the real advantage, even more than the shorter throw, imo, is the solid engagement you get w/ the piece (it 'clicks' right into the gate), and the booger bushings accentuate this.
