Intresting feature or something else?
I was driving home from work with the fuel light on. It had come on right when i left work its about 40 miles from my house. From exp i knew i could get home on the fuel i had, plus by my work only has crap gas stations that i dont like using. Just as a i got off the freeway the fuel light dinged again three times ding ding ding, then the fuel light started blinking. Is that an added feature to warn you your super low. Or could that be something to warn me of a malfuction in my fuel system?
It's your "super low" warning system kicking in, just like it explains in the owner's manual.[sm=icon_rtfm.gif]

Yup, running it really low or running out means you start sucking all the dirt and junk with the last few ounces of gas...not good....
i've gotten it that low before, and then drove for another 20 miles until i could find the next rest stop. the car still only took 10.5 gallons. these cars have the reserve from hell, so don't be too worried if you get that low.

If you've got a dent or two in your tank, that will effect how much will hold. Personally, I never drive with anything less than half a tank. Part of it comes from growing up in a family that might have to evacuate the country we were in and flee to France if the Russians attacked, the other is based on bulletins we get at my PD strongly suggesting another 9-11 type incident is very possible here in the USA due to the upcoming National elections and the holiday season, not the mention the elections in Iraq in January.
it's bad for the cat too- the manual says don't go lower than 1/4 tank- i think that's a little extreme, but if you do short fuel to one of the cylinders the egt will spike from being too lean and it could burn out the cat.
