I just got a 05 srt4 stock but i took the top off the air box and put a knn air filter and for some reason its pushing 17 pounds of boost can anyone tell me why its doing that? also can anyone tell me any minor adjustments to boost my power? thanks for the help.

 

How much boost are you getting in 1st gear ? ..... I ask because I wonder if it is stock. Or do you mean you installed the k&n filter and now you boost more than you were before ?

 

well 1st gear it hits 15 psi but then 2nd through 5th it hits 17psi but all i did was take the top off my air box and put a K&N filter

 

If you are hitting 15psi in first gear and your car is stock then one of your pipes aren't on all the way.....atleast that's my first guess. You bought the car used correct ?

 

I thought first gear (with no stage) boosted a little lower for first gear??... gosh, I thought that's what I read (a long time ago)... so that would be normal if I am correct...

15psi stock is way above normal .... it should be like 7-9.

Edit: I guess I should also ask if your boost gauge sits at 0 with the car turned off ?

 

First gear boost is kept low for traction purposes.....otherwise you'd look like a AA Fueler Dragster pulling away at every redlight......

whey you say it hits, does it spike there and then drop? or does it hold that much pressure?
its not unusual to spike 17psi (except for 1st gear, where youll see maybe 8 or 9 at THE MOST)

and Burnout mentioned checking where the boost gauge sits when the car is off. the boost gauges in these cars are known to die rather easily.

 

Well i dont completely know if its stock or not. I bought it from the used car dealer ship and they said it was stock and it appears to be stock also. Also i live at high altitude in colorao if that makes a difference.... and yeah it sits at 0 psi when the cars off.
