Default Uncle Billy's low cost upgrades

Howdie,
I've been a proud owner of a bone stock2004, just clicked in 14k miles in 9 months.. so now its time for a few enhancements. I've been reading through the differnent forum postings, and seems like its easy to hit 300+ hp, if you have $$$ or don't mind filling the no2 tank..
Unfortunatly, that's not going to work for me, not enough $$$. I'll write up a plan before i start, and post it, and i'll write up the FAQ when i'm done. Thoughts/experiences appreasheated!!!

So here is the plan for now
- a little more boost, modify the stock wastegate bending the link slightly more(i don't have the link on this pc)
- map clamp (build my own using zener diode, couple of restistors, and an opamp) so the ecu thinks its just 14lbs, i was hoping for 19lbs with a stock turbo and exhaust.
-okay so now that i have more boost, and a map clamp to prevent the ecu from barfing... i need more fuel--- so for that i found an edelbrock fuel pressure regulator that will increase it 1lb fuel pressure for every 1lb of boost
-- this part i'm not sure about, from memory stock fuel presure was 40lbs, and the fuel injectors were 570's, so that means more fuel, not sure if it will reach the 600 that i'll need (again i'll add the edebrock link for cacualting how much fuel is needed)

Default RE: Uncle Billy's low cost upgrades

oops.. wrong key...
one more update
-instead of upgrading the exhaust to turbo back 3" ($1k), replace the down pipe that dumps to the atmosphere (based on back pressure or an full throttle switch connected to an acuator)
-thinking of increasing the size of the intercooler (i'll need to take some measurements, ambient air temp, intercooler inlet, ane intercooler exhaust) -- someone posted an article (not here) something like every 20 degree's is worth 1lb of boost..
-last but not least, i keep reading these articles about octane, back when i was in school on of the final exam questions was how much power/btu is in a gallon of 87 and 91 --- ended up being the same, the difference was resistance to preignition... (anyone done a dyno run with regular and premium)
-would a new exhaust manifold help with the stock turbo?
-lastly, okay if your counting this is #5, anyone hacked the ecu yet??? -- so the fuel curve can be reset without an external device ?

sorry for blabbering (and spelling is due to the 3 cups of coffee-NOT)

You're correct in your observation that the "power" in regular gas and premium gas is the same. However, the difference is in resistance to detonation. Gasoline is blended by the refiners to burn rather than explode or detonate, hence the higher "octane" numbers for gasoline used in high compression engines where the heat in the engine could set off the gas/air mixture before the spark plug had a chance to do it's thing.....
