Default speedometer/rpm gauge out of comission!

2003 Nean SXT. I have checked the fuses!!! RPM needle is BEHIND the trip button and my speedometer is not working either. I haven't done anything crazy!I need help!!! My brother is gonna Kill ME! I don't know where to start, anyone willing to guide me? It could be a long ride! Brother comes home from Iraq soon!!

did it just suddenly stop working? these two gauges are the only ones not working?

chances are your sensor might have become disconnected somewhere along the line, or a connection got pulled. i forget where but the sensor is on the side of thetranny. perhaps someone else could chime in?

edit:
btw, you might try posting in the 2nd gen neon section as well. while sisters, the SRT and SXT are quite different in many ways. some folks on the 2gn section might offer some better advice on your specific problem.

this may help a little. i konw if the speed sensor becomes offset it will kill your tach/speedo (fig7):
