Default trans problem, anyone else?

Hi all. wondering if anybody else had this tranny problem and what was the final fix. I have an '03, only mods are cold air intake, mopar exhaust and stage 2 w/o toys. Car has never been to the track, hardcore street raced or gone above 90mph.
It has 48,000 miles. First clutch went at 34,000. Last week I missed a shift ( 3rd gear ) Didnt hear any bangs or other noise but I forced it into gear. Every time after that 3rd grinds. Much worse downshifting than up. Fluid in master/slave has never been low. Tranny fluids been changed and also never low. Dealer says they will change the clutch and slave/master for $2066 and THEN be able to diagnose the problem when they are sure its not the clutch. Next day the tranny shop down the block pulled the tranny. Clutch is OK. 3rd gear teeth edges are obviously worn from the grinding. Syncro edges are a little worn. But nothing 100% broken yet. Gonna do the slave/master,3rd gear and syncros. Some thought it might not be fully disengaging. during the dealer mech test drive he said the pedal felt very soft for an SRT. Its always been soft. Wondering if thats why I only got 34,000 on the 1st clutch.
Any thoughts? thanks

3rd gear sucks on some cars. is it poping out at all? could be the slave cylender, could be lots of things actually. are all the symptoms listed? the srt does not have a very hard clutch at all, even when stock....

Hey PSI. Never popped out of gear.Actually one thing I left out was that it always shifted hard from day one. 1st 3rd and reverse being noticibly difficult to get into gear. Never grinding just had to push hard at times. Mostly after the car warmed up after about a mile or two. At times after driving home in rush hour Long Island traffic to back into my driveway you had to wiggle the shifter all around and I hate to admit it but use two hands to get it to clunk into reverse. I see people complaining about these trannys a lot here so I just figured it was a design flaw and got use to it. I guess looking back now I think the dealer had a field day beating the crap out of my car when it was delivered.I went in to order it before any were delivered and left a deposit for the first yellow one they got in. It had a blown front strut leaking oil all over the rim that the service manager tried to convince me was Armor All. And my salesman ( salesboy) remarked how scary fast this thing was. I was leaning towards the slave/master as the initial problem but with the nasty grinding in 3rd now every shift and only 3rd I figured syncro now is shot too.

for starters try changing the fluid and adjusting the petal and see how that works. if you do need a rebuild and dodge won't fix it n2mb is having a winter rebuild special right now lol

our trannys are hard and stiff, but not like you're describing.

Thanks for the info, but its already undergoing the rebuild. Should be ready Monday or Tuesday. I did adjust the pedal. It did make the shift a little easier but 3rd would still grind somthing awful.
