Snow means no car. Snow ALSO means sand....that means destroying my paint!! TEE HEE! Thats okay cause My Dewalt 849 will be sitting under the tree this year....IMA BE DETAILING!!!! Eeeee I'm so excited I can't wait
You can really screw up your paint with a rotery buffer, can't you? I have always wanted to use one, but I am scared that i am going to F up my paint. I need to practice on someone elses paint. any volanteers.
If you don't know what your doing...DONT TOUCH A POLISHER!! You'll burn the paint, make swirl marks worse....it'll be an asbolute nightmare! I'm a professional detailer, I went to the BMW Academy and have worked for several detailing companies/dealerships in the past. You have to know what chemicals to use, how they work, what RPM/OPM speed you should have the buffer on. You need to recognize when the chemical isn't doing its job and needs assistance, you need to know what type of pad to use, and how to prep it (i.e. Compound (what strength), Finishing, Cutting, Polishing, etc). And you need to master the art of working a buffer. Alot of people try to control the buffer/polisher, but really you just need to guide it, it does the work itself. You need to tape off all rubber (those who don't pay for burning it later). Its alot to learn, but it pays off so much in the end. I'm gonna start doing it on the side come January when I get everything situated. I have a powerwasher already, I just need the buffer/polisher to finish it off. A compressor can come later, I can deal with drips, there aren't too many on this car anyhow, theres nowhere for them to hide.
Heres some work I did on my Miata. NEITHER picture is retouched or altered in any way.
Detailing is so much fun, I absolutely love it, but I can't work in a shop/dealership because I'm a chick, I'm always harassed (even though I wear mens clothes so big you cant see me). So I"m gonna do it by myself. I might open up my own shop one day who knows. When I'm the boss no one can fawk with me!
