Default Winter Tires and Rims

I have been doing a lot of reading on this site and the other one, and I can't figure out if 15" steel wheels will fit the SRT 4. Tire Rack says that there is no way that they will fit(I spoke with them on the phone), however there are several posts saying that they will fit. If they do fit, what exact kind of wheels do I have to buy and where can I get them? I don't want to buy them and find out that hey don't fit. What size tire should I get to keep the same size diameter?

Thanks

Your stock tires are 205/50/R17s, 3-season BF Goodrich KDW-2s. You can't go any wider than 255/260 without having your tires stick out wayyy too far. Your bolt pattern is 5x100 your offest is FWD 40mm. I don't know why you would want to put 15" steelies on it, why not just get a nice set of 205/50/17 winter tires?? Blizzaks are awesome. The rims can withstand the torture of the wintery roads....just clean them and take care of them properly and you shouldn't have a problem.

pt steelies work on our cars. stick on a set of 205/50's or 215/50 and you'll be good to go for the winter. basically what you're looking for is a 15" rim with a 35mm offset, anything larger won't clear the calipers. i've heard that the stock vw rims will work as well, but i can't verify that one. i do know for sure that the steelies fit, if you're looking for a cheap set of rims i would go with those, you should be able to get them for about $100 for the set.

I don't see the point to buying rims and tires...just use the stock rims, and save the money for new rims for the other three seasons.

using a smaller 15" rim allows for a larger side wall. this means that the tire can flex more. and really, the skinnier the tire the better as then there's less resistance for the tire to cut through the snow. the pt steelies are a 6.5" rim, so you can run a tire as small as a 195 on it and still be fine.

Eh not my cup of tea. I would NEVER run a 195 tire on ANY car. This 205 is killing me Wayyyyyy too narrow

Thanks for the info PSI. sexy, I want steel wheels for the winter because they are a ton cheaper and 15s are better in the snow. If you watch WRC, their snow tires are very narrow compared to there dry asphult tires.

sexy, the purpose of a winter rim is different than a performance rim. you want skinny, it's a lot better. it's the reverse of what you would normally think of for our cars. if i could run a 175 in the winter on this car i would, it really does make that much of a difference. my b/fs pos celica has like 145 series tires on it and that this is awesome in the snow, just plows right through it, meanwhile i sit there and spin with my 225's. it's just a completly different way of thinking about tires. here's a link to some decent write ups that tirerack did on winter tires and rims, maybe it will help you understand it a little better....tirerack winter tech

Hey you all, listen to Amy, she is correct in stating the skinnier the snow tire , the better. If I were to put mine on the road in the snow, I'd just put DS-2 Dunlops or the Blizzaks. If your a good driver, just put two on the front using the stock wheels, and drive slow!

Lol I drove my Miata with summer tires through the 8" of snow we got late into friday night early into Saturday Morning.....It didn't do all that bad actually. It has 205s on it also, 205/40/16s. I believe you guys, I just wouldn't do it, we don't get snow all the time up here and when we do its usually gone within the next couple of days and I have nowhere to go anyways. If I really could, I'd buy a winter car, and I'd make it a Stratus R/T Coupe....mine plowed through everything, never got stuck once...not even in 10" of snow. Or I'd buy a truck, your lucky Paul you have a truck to play around with in the snow LOL.
