Info on SRT-4?
Hi guys Ive beel loving cars for a long time now but just recently ive gotten a really great job that will be able to afford me a really nice car. So I was thinking about the Dodge SRT-4. I just wanted to know of any problems that you all have had with the car and what I can expect out of the long run for the car. I went for a test drive in it yesterday and...wow its really fun to drive unfortunately I had to keep it mild due to the car salesman in the passanger seat [:'(] . Anyways any input would be much obliged.
1. 03's have a problem with the #4 spark plug wire, some 04's. Mine came with a 90 degree #4 wire so the turbo doesn't destroy it.
2. Ricers rev on you at every light.
3. Everyone else is scared.
4. I heard that a loose AC duct in the dash causes a knocking sound in some cars.. Not sure how frequent this is.
5. You spend too much money because you can't stop buying mods.
I've not heard of much else problematic wise thats common, except maybe that you need to buy an oil catch can you help stop the blowby from the turbo. I don't know why these cars didn't come with them stock [sm=dontgetit.gif]

Awesome thanks for the info. I have a 92' Honda Prelude thats all moded out but not fast at all (I never try to race anyone due to this) but it handles like a dream. They told me about all these factory mods that you could do to your car without voiding the warenty but they didnt give me any prices......Do they have a factory lowering kit with springs and shocks?
As far as Problems go, alot of people mod out their car, take it to the track everyweekend and are riding on 40k+ miles and doing fine, but SRT-4's are fairly new so I guess you have to wait for any problems to start arising.
There is a bunch of stuff out there, and I really doubt I could answer your questions as well as say Sexy or Psichick.
But anyway, no modification can void your warrenty according to the Moss Act(I think thats the name of it). Your dealer simple doesn't warrenty the mod, or any ill effects it directly causes.
Oo Oo on that note I found a kit for the srt-4 I forgot the price it was ~$700, anyway it has push button dampering? I think thats the right word.. to adjust the stiffness of your ride, and it lowers the car Approx 1.4 inches.. No site to it though a guy at the local dyno shop was telling me about it. I'll get the name next time I talk to him and hopefully find a online store for it.
For performance parts, some visuals, and others try Checking out www.modernperformance.com
Or if your looking for some carbon fiber mods www.carbonbydesign.com. As much as I love this place, Other than CF pieces I find the rest of their products to be a bit higher priced than anywhere else, say modernP. Oh and they actually carry REAL Eyelids!! not just the vinyl stickers.. lol. I plan on getting a set of CF eyelids once I order my IPX CF hood.. woot.
As far as grills so I like the ones at Customcargrills best.
Just a little FYI

Damn your just full of good links now arent you! The push button dampering button sounds really cool but doesnt sound stock. I really like lower cars so its been hard driving around in these normal ride height cars after riding around in a lowered car for 3 years. Keep up with the info and definately the good links guys.
I had one of my injectors replaced. I hate the wheelhop and I get bad gas mileage in the city. I love the car though and will definately keep it forever! The problems I have are because I love to drive it fast and love the blowoff!
The only issue I've had is the intake air sensor popping off when I punched it hard....I had just put on Stage 1 a few weeks prior...other than that, it runs like a top.
You may want to check our sponsors for a "deal" on SRT-4 parts....mention that you're DF member.

the vast majority of "problems" that you'll hear about with these cars are due to the owners themsevles. bootleg mods and improper installation are common with these cars, as many owners try to save a few bucks. they do things cheaply and screw up their cars, and then complain when it brakes. these engines are damn stong and can take a lot of abuse, but you can't underestimate the stupidity of the owners.
as for factory related problems, there are a few, nothing major. that pesky #4 plug wire going white from the turbo. might as well change to a set of aftermarket ones anyway, the stockers are junk. and while you're at it the stock plugs are junk so change those out as well. there's a tps issue, nothing major and it has a tsb on it so a quick trip to the dealer and you're good. there's a issue witht the throttle sticking at 3k, again tsb and it's fixed. another tsb is for an irregular taping noise in the engine. this causes no problems, but can be fixed if you want. personally i wouldn't do it even if i did have the problem, something about letting a mechanic take apart my upper engine and go at it with a file is a little unnerving.
other than those, nothing really comes to mind. a catch can is a necessity, and i would get a new shifter ****, it has a tendency to rip off when shifting from 2nd to 3rd hard lol.
i've heard of these push button systems, a friend is getting one for his wrx and was telling me about it. it doesn't cost anywhere near $700 though, more like 2k or more. i would not put a system like that on my car that's so cheap, remember that you get what you pay for. i would suggest just going with a good set of springs if you're only looking to lower the car you can get those for about $200, or really the best option is coilovers ($1000-1300 depending on stage and brand). the mopar stage 3 or ipp are the best out there imo.
as for the "factory staged upgrades that don't void your warranty" good luck with those. yes, the mma says that they can't void your warranty yada yada yada. the reality is that dcx has been voiding warranties for the smallest things. they have voided powertrain warranties for something like the mopar bov. or stage 1. they even tried to do it on aftermarket tires!!! just last week an owner took his car in for an oil change. when he went back to pick up the car he was informed that his powertrain warranty is now restricted because the regional dcx rep decided to take a look at his car and restricted it because he has a mopar bov and stage 1. he wasn't even there to get warranty work done on his car. they even used a story about a race that someone posted on srtforums as a basis to void a warranty. the reality is that although it's against the law to do these things, dcx and other car manufacturers, do it all the time. they can just say that its voided or restricted, and then it's up to you to prove that it's not. the law says that it should be the other way around, but the implimentation of this law ends up screwing us in the end anyway. as dale loves to put it, you have to pay to play. if something brakes on your car and you're modded, it's going to be your responsibility to fix it, warranty or not.
at least dcx isn't doing to us what subaru does to wrx/sti owners....talk about screwing people over....

Yeah that Subaru stuff is bull****!
Some dealers will warranty the Mopar parts. And to answer your previous question....Mopar has Stage 1 Coilovers, and Stage 2 and Stage 3 full suspension kits. It all depends on how cool your Service Manager is, what they'll warranty and what they won't.
Another problem a few owners have reported is the Flywheel bolts backing out. Its not nearly as common as the others. Another thing, thats not really a "problem" Is the E-brake light. Some cars have their e-brake light come on and not go off, its because of the lack of brake fluid. If this happens to you add some DOT 3 or DOT 4 Brake fluid (dont top it off), and the light will shut off.
But MOPAR cannot void your whole warranty for one part!! They can void that part, and whatever damage that part may cause, but they cannot void your whole 3/36 or 7/70 for an intake.

sexy, the flywheel bolts backing out has happened on maybe 10 cars, i would not say that it's anywhere near a problem. it has happened yes, but it's not something that anyone really needs to be concerned about. the reason that you keep hearing about it is because dcx always tried to not warranty it because the clutch is a wearable part, and thus a huge argument would follow and people would complain about it.
when you're low on brake fluid, the ebrake light will flash on when you get on it hard. it doesn't stay on, only flashs on. i actually have this now, noticed it at the track on sunday. haven't put in fluid yet because my strut bar is in the way of the resevoir and i've been lazy. going to add it saturday because i'm going back to the track again on sunday. not a big deal, just some fluid and you're good. no one really knows where the brake fluid goes....it's just gone lol. this is actually pretty common, usually you'll see it after you've had the car about a year.
