most likely getting an srt-4-I need info (kinda long)
I am most likely getting an 05 srt-4 in late february. I've got a couple of questions for you srt-4 owners regarding the car. I rode in an 05 at the dealer and i fell in love with it. Up until this point, i've been a honda guy. I currently have a 92 prelude si with a couple of basic mods. It's an excellent car but i need something bigger. The "back seats" are useless. It seems that most all import owners hate srt-4s ,me being an exception. On a prelude message board i frequented, everyone there hated srt-4s. But anyway, i want an srt-4 but i'm afraid i will regret getting rid of the prelude. Is the srt-4 a reliable car? Some import owners talk about it not being reliable because it is a domestic. Also, is it quality constructed?(made with quality parts) I don't want to buy a new car and have it break down on me. I'm sorry this is so long but i'm trying to find out everything i can before i buy an srt-4. I figured you guys would know what you're talking about.
thank you very much for your time

The SRT-4 is 95% American made. The turbo is made by Mistubishi making it 5% Foreign.
In accidents the SRT holds up far better than any car I've seen crash in its class.
The 2.4L i4 you'll find under the hood is nearly bullet proof. It can take a HELL of a lot of strain. Theres virtually nothing you could do in the normal realm of driving that would destroy any piece of this engine.
I have never been a Honda fan. Being around an AutoBody often, Honda's pay the most when it comes to insurance/parts, but American cars hold up far better. Theres nothing like a strongly built American car.
I have not known an SRT-4 to "break down" as of yet. Theres minor issues, one being the number 4 spark plug wire in some 03s/04s. But they fixed it for 05, your set.
The power is there, its the fastest FWD vehicle EVER produced. (Not just off the Dodge line). Its incredible to drive, holds up well, is extremely safe...and unless you have any more specific questions I think I answered it all.
Strict Honda guys are just mad because they think its a "neon". They have no respect for the car's name or what the car can do. I have respect for all walks of vehicular life (that sounded funny LOL). Though I may not be a fan of specific vehicles. The SRT-4, and pretty much ALL Dodges (coming from a Mopar family, 300M, Hemi Durango, ****load of Dakotas, Concorde, Lebaron, Stratus R/T Ram, and SRT-4- history) hold up well, and are very very reliable. I haven't had a mopar/dcx vehicle in my family that I've been dissapointed with yet. Though I do also own a 2003 Miata Special Edition MX-5...and I'm very very dissapointed with the Japanese making of the car.

I knew a guy whose honda accord's steering locked while driving. at sixty mph. on the highway. at a curve in the road leading to a bridge. he hit a concrete pylon. his car flipped, he fell twenty feet and landed roof down on some railroad tracks. He's okay, but that kinda sealed the honda deal. He described it as the locking that happens when you turn the wheel after you turn the car off or whatever, the security deal. That's just scary.
It is very simply as to why they bash the SRT-4, they are jealous. I have seen this many places where they don't have anything better to do than bash the SRT-4. It because they fear and envy it at the same time. They know that the SRT-4 will blow their doors off and they wish that they had that kind of power and performance. It's just that simple.
I've ran against a few cocky Prelude owners that started up their crap and I soo very easily destroyed them without any effort what so ever. The first I blew away without even downshifting, I just lugged it in 5th gear and never even went near full throttle. I let off after I was about a football field away and at 125 MPH. There was another I blew away as well, but it's been awhile. Then there was a truely ricer one in which I was in a turn only lane during heavy rush hour traffic and he did the typical ricer rev when he went by since he was going straight and I was going another direction, not to mention the bumper to bumper traffic. A friend of mine has a buddy with a Prelude with tons of high dollar toys added to it and he cannot even beat my friends '03 Tiburon GT V6 that only has an Injen CAI and Greddy Evo cat-back exhaust.

That sounds about right that they would make fun of it... I would too if I had spent $25,000 dollars making my little import run high 15's and then dodge comes out with a $21,000 car that will walk all over them when it is stock...

Yes no offense but Preludes are extremely slow...with and without mods (whether it be TC or otherwise)

Wow, what a bunch of idiots.
First off even a Prelude with a Turbo couldn't hang with a Stock SRT, let alone a modifed one. Preludes are decent looking (the newer models) but very very underpowered.
Obviously it would be nothing without the Turbo, idiots. And just as you said hunn, same thing with an EVO -> Lancer, and STi -> WRX. What kind of intelligence do you have over there? Oh wait...nevermind. lol. Honda owners have such issues with Domestic cars it isn't even funny. Its sad really, that they can't accept the fact that theres a car faster than they are, and its American. There is always a car faster than yours. Always. Some people just can't realize that.
I had a 1991 Ford Probe owner arguing with me last night about OCC's, our turbos, etc. And saying that he could hang with an SRT-4 weighing in at 2900lbs with a T25 turbo. Sorry, if Jonathan (Paul you know who I mean, from TFT) who can't even drive can beat him, anyone can. Jonathan's GTEC listed him as running 16s-18s for 1/4 mile times. Sad. Very sad.
Those guys need to get a life, but hey whatever floats your boat. Its not me driving that Honda, nor will I ever. Not even a Honda on two-wheels. I'd rather rock a Yamaha
Glad to have you here srt4 kid. Nice to see a honda owner thats honest and unbiased.
Any questions, let us know.

AND they have an issue with Miatas too? I take offense to that. The Miata, (mine is a Special Edition) is not fast by any means. The MazdaSpeed with the small turbo pumping 180/190bhp is QUICK, but still not fast. But add that with the cornering/handling it has and you have a kick *** ****in car. But it does have the capability of a direct 5.0(4.9)L V8 bolt up. Can a lude do that? Didn't think so. Stick that in a car that weighs 1510lbs and then go chase a Prelude.
On top of that they're insulting Miatas which have some of the finest handling in their class. I have yet to drive a car with better handling and cornering than the Miata. Give me an autocross race, while I'm STOCK, with a prelude thats Turbo'd and I'll take him any day of the week, even with a 100hp difference. My handling is superior to that of a lude. I was NOT impressed with the body roll on the s2000, for a Honda reference. These guys just have no respect for any vehicle on the road.
Rotary engines are some of the sweetest engines made, and take to modifications very well, though they hate cold weather.
VTEC makes people biased, and evil. If I owned a Honda and I kept getting my *** kicked, I'd hate evreything that beat me too.
*sigh* Whatcha gonna do? Not too much. [>:]
