If you are serious, then read all that you can. And when you feel you are starting to get it, read some more. everything you want to know is on the net. No one can sum it all up for you in one reply or one thread. Knowledge is power, and especially with an SRT4

Default RE: srt-4 questions

first off -

the engine in an srt-4:

like common internal combustion engines found in most cars takes fuel from the fuel tank and air from in front of the car and sucks them into the cylinders of the engine through an open intake valve when a piston moves down. when the piston moves up, it compresses the air and fuel as the valve closes to create compression. when the air/fuel mixture is fully compressed - an electrical signal is sent to the spark plug - which creates a spark at the tip of the plug - which is located at the top of the combustion chamber (on top of the cylinder walls). The mixture explodes and forces the piston down. an exhaust valve opens and release the burned gasses. the cylce repeats. the explosion is what makes the power.

the higher the compression - the more power the engine will make.

an srt/4 is turbo charged. this means that the burned gasses that leave the combustion chamber are used to spin a turbine. that turbine is used to force high volumes of air into the car. most cars just suck air in with the natural vacuum created with the piston moves down. since more air is forced in the car makes even more compression and therefor has more power.

cold air intakebrings air into the car that is colder than air coming from a stock location. for example - the stock intake location on a first gen neon (1995-1999) is overtop of the exhaust manifold. this air is heated by that manifold. warm air is thin air. cold air is more dense. by moving the intake location to somewhere it will suck in cold air - it doesnt change the amount of air the car takes in. it does make the air more dense - denser air will make higher compression and therefor more power.

stage 3 refers to one of mopar's (dodge, chrysler, jeepfactory performance parts) upgrade kits for the srt4. stage 3 is the highest power gain and most expensive kit. it has many parts.

as i said earlier a turbo forces more air into the engine. when you shift gears - you let off of the gas. a blow-off valve allows the forced air to escape the air intake- rather than be continuously forced into the engine. this makes for a more safer and smoother running car.

also as i said ealirer a spark plug is what ignites the mixture in the engine to make it explode.
