Default Tire issues with KDWs??

As you may know, I have an '05 with 22,000 miles. The car has the original KDW tires on it. I noticed last night at the race track that they are very dry-rotted and cracked, both in the sidewalls and in the tread. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you contact B.F. Goodrich about it, and what did they do for you?

Mine went 4 1/2 years w/o cracking, but I used Black Magic and Armor All Tire Foam on them and kept the car garaged. I don't think the tread on mine would have lasted 22K......

Im sitting at about 18k on my stock KDWs. I have the same problems with mine. I've heard its a common problem. If you've gotten 22k out of the factory tires, I'd say you've got your money's worth...lol.

My car is still under factory warranty. I contacted B.F. Goodrich this morning and they told me to take the car to an authorized tire dealer to have them inspected for warrantyreplacement. Do any of you have recommendations as far as what brand of tires I should replace the KDWs with?

I had a problem with mine at about 12,000 mile. Mine were so noisy it sounded like a mud truck so I contacted B.F and they pro rated me any tire from B.F. I choose the kdw sports I can't complain they got me through winter here in minnesota and they have great dry traction hook up

They won't require you to get another set of KDW's?

i have used nothing but the KDWs. I have a nother 6 new ones in the garage waiting for use. but ill agree, if you got 22k out of them thats great. dont think they are the best 'track' tires by any means, but mine is a daily driver and they are great imo. arent brakes and tires usually some of those things excluded under like normal wear and tear under warranty?

I don't think dry-rot qualifies as wear and tear...these sound like bad tires...BF-G. is a very reputable tire company. After what happened to Bridgestones' delaminating sister Firestone, I would surmise that they wouldn't want word of quickly dry-rotting tires getting out...Agreed that 22k is great for a set, lol, i never got that, but that isn't a normal issue either...I'd bet they will offer up a good solution to dodge when prompted to if they haven't already made a correction with them.

They were very good all around 3 season tires I would agree for sure and performed well wet or dry but they did always have one glaring issue...road noise...when those things start to wear they sound more like mud tires than low profile shoes. I found a set of toyo t1's to be so far superior in wet, equal in dry and silent in comparison.(not a toyo plug as many tires would do the same in comparison, just what I used with very positive results)

never had mine dry rot on me, could have been some bad batches produced or something???

ill agree though, they sound like a set of huge mudhuggers in comparison to most passanger car tires.

As someone said above, tires will not be covered under the vehicles factory warranty but the tires have their own separate warranty from BFG. Usually they reimburse you for new tires based on the percentage of wear from what I understand. In other words, If the tread is worn 1/2 way, they reimburse you for 1/2 the price of a new tire.

I would say if you got 22K on them they are at the end of their life span anyway. I switched to Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on the stock rims 205/50/R17. I'm on my 2nd set of those tires and I think they are better than the KDWs in every way - handling, wet and dry traction (wet especially), treadwear, and road noise. Love 'em. Also I use Michelin X-Ice tires (same size) in the winter. Great winter tire.
