Turning up boost
my gf has a stock 2004 srt-4 and she was wondering if she can turn her boost up? also i have 2003 srt-4 stage 3 that i just bought from an auction and there's a button near the intercooler sprinkler button that has a gas gauge and says 100+. does anybody know what that is?
well yeah you can turn the boost up...start with going with a stage 1 computer that'll get it up a couple pounds...you dont' need the injectors because the 2004's came with the upgraded injectors that were not in the 2003's! and that would be the safe way to do it... but start with doing an intake exhaust to help things flow better. because if you turn it up with no mods your either gonna get fuel cut or something sooner or later will give because you do not have the proper supporting mods to support the boost! thats my two cents that I've gotten from other SRT owners and working at a Dodge Dealership for a long time now!
ok so other than all the !!!!!'s in the above post it's pretty good advice.
you can only do about 16psi on the stock fuel before you can potentially run into problems. on your car those are toys that you have. i suggest going to mopar's website and reading up on the s3 kit.

thanks a lot. i've also got a little dial that goes from 0 to 3 and i think it adjust boost, can it be adjusting from stage 0-3 at the spin of the dial? i almost think so because at 0 i can get 15lbs and at 3 i can get about 26lbs.
that wont' be going through the stages! i mean stage 1 is 1. and once stage 2 is put in a new computer is put in. it could be a boost controller. like street, medium and race...but 26 is pretty high, unless it has some motor work i woudn't be leaving it on 26 pounds all the time...even though granted the motor can hold up to 500HP straight from factory. which is pretty impressive, but i would leave it around 16 if your just cruisin around then you can bump it up if you are racing. but thats my 2 cents!
ya that makes sense. i just bought this car at last thursdays auction and it's got a ton of motor work done to it. it's pretty intense. probably the fastest car i've driven besides the ford gt. but what you said seems right, it's probably a boost controll. i'm gonna look on mopar's site and see. thanks for the info.
that's what's called turbo toys. it's basically a four stage boost controller right from mopar. 0 is the lowest setting, meant for daily driving to help conserve gas. 1 is set for street tires at the track. it's higher boost, still limits some though. 2 is for drs/slicks. it limits boost in 1st and 2nd gear to allow for traction, then gives you full boost in 3rd/4th. 3 is for slicks, it's full boost in all gears.
if you're boosting 26psi i'm going to assume that you've got s3, as the stock turbo isn't capable of going that high. 26psi is a little high though, is there an aftermarket wga on there as well? do you have a wideband? the s3 kit is full capable of going that high though, i run 28psion mine, but i have fuel to support that.

As for bumping up the boost, a real "cheap" way to add about 3 PSI is to make a small pinhole in the little black hose coming off the wastegate, maybe with a 1/8" drill bit. I'm sure a lot of people on here will frown on that but it will definitely make your car boost higher. My friend is a mechanic at a dealership and he said they actually did this to a few cars that came into the shop because they weren't boosting. I gave it a try and my boost at first would spike as high as 18 PSI but once the PCM caught up it tapered off to about 16-17 PSI spike and holds 15 PSI in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I've been running my car like this for awhile now and no problems whatsoever. However, the CEL comes on and throws a code for air inlet temperature or something like that. When I switch to a hose with no hole in it the CEL goes away and throws no codes. But the car runs perfect either way. Of course, I like to live dangerously, so TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
The real "right" way to add boost is bump up to the stage 1 PCM, add intake and exhaust, and possibly install an aftermarket wastegate. That will cost you roughly $1500.

You run 28 psi??? Race gas right?

i HIGHLY suggest you do not take the above advice and make a bleeder. there's a right way and a wrong way to do things, and that's definetly the wrong way. while it does work, it's not safe.
