TireRack Autocross Event
Well I went down to SouthBend to TireRackto the open autocross hosted by the SBR (south bend region) SCCA.
It was a lot of fun. I ranin STX, I won my class. Nevermind I was the only guy in STX. A win is a win! Notch another Victory for Mother Mopar! LOL.
I was runningcompetatively at 54.xx seconds to anyone nearly comparable to me. Almost every car there came with a set of track tires in tow, so you know how that was. A whole lot of them were in the high 40's low 50's. About the only carreally close to mine was aPhord ZX3 Sport Coupe that was trailered in. He ran STS and was about a second quicker. He was running a non stock exhaust and Much better street tires (Yokahama Advans) and his car appeared to corner very flat. He may be legal for STS but I'm sure he had a few handling "tweaks". I had to run STX due to the stage 2 even though my tires, wheels, brakes and suspension are completely OEM. Just as well, I guess, because if he and I were in the same class, he'd have won. I was maybe in the bottom third for fastest overall, but then there was almost nothing that drove in there and raced on OEMlegs and drove homeeither. I think I was doing pretty good. With more practice, I'm sure I could cut another 2 seconds off that time pretty easily.
The fastest thing there was a college built SAE cart with a 600cc CBR engine that was running around 45-43. There were no other Neons.
Here'sa vid link.
Enjoy!

To register is 150.00 and that will get you on track all day. The wear and tear is brake fluid, gas, and accelerated wear of brake pads and tires. Honestly its not hard on the car at all. The brakes are probably the worst. Warped rotors and pad wear can be bad, not enough cooling on the srt. But other than that, my friend with an 05 acr has run several with no problems watsoever, just tires, pads and brake fluid. It really is worth it in my opinion, you only have to run the car as hard as you want, so you can take it easy on the brakes. There is a certain joy of going through half a tank of gas in 30 minutes. And the srt is actually pretty at home on the track, especially with a few suspention mods and race tires. And to quote psichick, these cars like to be ridden hard!
