Default Srt4 problems

Hey all, I have a 03 srt4 i seem to be having some problems i was hoping someone could help me out.
While driving when i accelerate all the way (pedel to the floor) the car Sputters a couple of times then eventually gains speed but not as fast as it use to..this does this if im in third or fourth..say im going 35mph..im in third..and then i floor it thats when it will sputter.
I havnt gotten my 30,000 mile checkup yet its at 36,000 i know i need it but dont have the money yet or the chiltons book so i can do it myself..(can that be the problem? or do i have a hose leak?..... Another question tonight after driving about 5 miles to my house I noticed a weird smell comeing from the engine.. I redlined the car a couple times..But when i popped the hood I saw noticed something was glowing red from being hot..it was right to the left of the turbo..Is that normal or not..I dont know to much about the car yet..ive only had it about 5 months
Thnx

Any mods? Ever check/change your spark plugs or wires? Did you try resetting PCM?

Johny,

Most likely cause for the stutter on WOT (Wide Open Throttle) or just "gettin on it" is plugs and wires. There's a TSB on them, but with your mileage, it might not get you the stuff for free. No matter where you skimp, DON"T skimp on oil. Only FULL synthetic!!!!!!!!!!! And follow cooldown procedures in your owners manual!!!!!!!!!

Welcome, btw.

Full synthetic 5w30 oil. I use Mobil1 but you can use whichever brand you like. Royal Purple is a good name also.

The glowing red is perfectly normal after hard driving. I know the exact piece your talking about. What you really need to do with this car, if your gonna beat the hell out of it, is drive very easy for the last 3 minutes of your trip, or let it idle for 3 minutes once your parked in order to prevent internal damage to the turbo.

Funny smell you say?? If it smells like eggs, and its coming from inside the car, its probably the carbon buildup on the catalytic converter. If it smells like **** and its coming from outside the car, thats your clutch.

The stutter, up to 3000 RPMS in first through third gear, is the fourth spark plug wire, more than likely. There is a TSB out there for it which should have been taken care of upon your purchase of the vehicle. Your 4th wire shouldn't look like the #1 wire The 4th wire should have a 90 degree boot and almost overlap the 3rd wire as it travels to the valve cover. If the wire is a 90 degree boot, see if the exterior of the wires is whitish, it could mean they're bad. And pop some NGK Iridiums in there, for a max price of 30 bucks for four, you really can't go wrong.

Oh and never ever put the pedal to the floor, your dumping more fuel into the engine than it can properly handle, which also could have something to do with your lack of acceleration. Considering your at 2000-2500rpms when you do this, your really not going to gain anything by putting it to the floor with the rpms that low. 1/2 throttle on this car and its happy. But putting pedals to the floor does nothing but dump fuel that the engine cant adequately handle fast enough and bogs it down.

You shouldn't be beating on the car like that especially when you are in need of a tune up. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR OIL. Don't you have a friend that knows anything about cars that you can ask him to help you. If you are going to beat on the car alot like that on short trips or beating on it close to the time you turn it off, you should invest in a turbo timer. It cost around 50 bucks on Ebay, and it will extend the life of your turbo by not letting HOT oil just sit inside the turbo. It lets the oil circulate as it cools down so there is no gummy buildup.

Could be an injector if that wasn't said already. I had number 4 replaced now I just need to replace the plug wires and plugs. After the replacement my car ran strong.

Why are you at WOT in 3rd or 4th doing 35 mph? Punching it at low RPM in a high gear is not good for the turbo.

You definately shouldn't being going WOT in 3rd or 4th gear at 35 MPH.

You should get a set of good plug wires to give you the best possible spark, like the MSD Super Conductors, they will give several hundred times stronger and better spark than stock. Put in a bottle of dry gas or injector cleaner to help out on the fuel side and fill up with 91 or higher octane. New plugs wouldn't hurt either. This should take care of it.
