getting a srt4 need info
so first off nice to be here. I've wanted a srt4 since they first came out and have since not found a better car price to performance wise. What i need is some input from some experances owners, so heres my queston, oh yeah pleace explane any abv. used
what kind of real world mileage our you guys getting?
can you detune it anyway on the fly to run say 87oct. gas? like a boost controler.
can this truly be a daily commuter and still transport my 7 month old son and wife? it wouldnt be my only car though.
what would be the first few mods that are best to do?
does the sxt spoiler fit it? want it to be a sleeper.
any input will be much appreciated

yes, yes, yes, and yes... the sxt spoiler bolts on, it will be perfect for a daily commuter, everyone has said they are very reliable, I personally never drive mine, to keep miles off of it. And what i know about the gas is... I think... You can go ahead and put 87 octane in it and it will not hurt anything, to mention, other than performance... the computer will not let you have as much boost if you run low octane... also, I wouldn't do any performance mods unless you plan on useing higher octane...
real gas mileage, I don't really know, as I said i never drive mine, but I would say about 20 with a heavy foot, more on the higway...
welcome to the site, glad to have another owner...

91 is the lowest octane that you should ever put in the car. the higher the better. 87 will cause knock and probably kick you into limp mode.
i get about 200-220 miles to the tank (10 gallon fill up). it is my daily driver, no problems. catch can, intake, sts first, with plenty more later on. an sxt spoiler fits, but it's still not much of a sleeper with the front mount in plain view...

i use my car as a daily driver, and i have no complaints...i too also get about 200 miles to the gallon
as said before, the SXT spoiler does fit right in, and the first few mods I would suggest are some type of springs to lower the car, and the Mopar/Borla exhaust and a BOV...but then again, I don't have a 7 month old son to be woken up when I downshift...

there isnt a way you can detune the boost?
the main mod area i was thinking about would be in the handling dept. because when i test drove one there is some udersteer and since i has a rwd car now i would want to tighten things up,just not sure is i should stay with mopar or aftermarket, also what front mount?

detune boost? well you have two options on that one. first is to get stage 2 w/toys (or stage 3). it has a dial-a-boost feature that lowers boost levels to increase gas mileage. or you can get a piggy back (power paq, emanage, or something similar) where you can have two maps stored in it.
for handling, you have springs or coilovers. springs are cheaper but coilovers allow more fine tuneing of your suspension. sway bars will also greatly help. there's not much out there that will help with the understeer just yet, but there are some products in the works so stay tuned.
a front mount is the intercooler, front mount intercooler or fmic.

My wife's ordered '05 arrived after Thanksgiving. We added side airbags (~$200), a sunroof (~$800), and, her idea, the upgraded radio/CD changer with trunk mounted sub-woofer (~$750). The last item is a joke... the only way you'll 'enjoy' that sub-woofer is with one of the rear seats down... the stock exhaust is that loud. Add the side air bags - they will lessen your insurance cost. I wouldn't get the sunroof, either. Opening/closing it at highway speeds can be troublesome. Stock, the cars are nice... certainly fine for a small family. Okay, they are a bit loud... and fun to drive. I still think they are quite safe... and efficient. My wife's gets 22-25+ mpg on Exxon premium (If it's good enough for the Alaskan coastline, it's good enough for my vehicles!) - and, it is driven to/from work 40mi/day on half and half, highway & non-highway roads. She won't let me drive it... I have the soccer-mom's car - an '05 Jeep Liberty, my second best ever new car (My best was a '90 Shadow ES Turbo/5sp... sold last September after 14.5yr and 165k+ miles.).

Don't run 87 octane in it. That's just asking for trouble.
If you want to save money on gas, don't press the pedal as hard when you accelerate. The harder you press it, the more gas you'll use.
Spending any money in order to "detune the boost", so you can save money on gas seems counterproductive to me.

Welcome to DF!
During the middle of last year and the only time I ever checked my fuel mileage, with a mix of freeway and fun driving I averaged 21.9 MPG.
I would highly recommend that you don't use anything less than 91 octane, but you can use 87 octane, the computer will reduce the performance by itself so you don't need a boost controller for running lower octane.
It is easily a daily driver, mine is my daily driver, but I highly advise the use of snow tires during the winter if there is ever even the slightest chance of having to drive in any snow.
The first best mods are as follows:
OCC (oil catch can) around $20
MSD Super Conductor plug wires $45
K & N Typhoon CAI $200
Mopar/Borla exhaust $340
and there are many more cheap and easy mods as well.
The SXT spoiler should be a direct bolt on fit.
