The original intention was to just build them for a few years. They wanted a special model to end the Dodge production Neon before they shared it with Mitsusquishy. With the popularity of this car it wouldn't surprise me to see another version of it in the future.
I'm glad that it was limited production, I've never been one that was into a car that everyone has. There's nothing worse than seeing the same car you have on and around every single corner. However it does hurt parts availability and severly limits their shelf life. If they were to keep the SRT-4 name alive in a rebadged Mitsubishi then I would hope it would be on the new redesigned Eclipse which looks pretty damn good.
