Default new to american tuner

hey people i have been interested in buying a 2004 srt-4. so far i have had terrible luck with hondas. 2 a civic and prelude totaled in 8 months. but i have read a little about the srt-4. i like that its turbo charged and it seems pretty quick because i got my *** wooped by one in my prelude that was on 9 psi. I was wondering though i have a slow computer and i cant find all the facts i really want. can anybody tell me how the drivetrain holds up? any long term problems that happen performance wise? what psi does it come with stock? how much psi can you run stock? whats the potential for an srt-4? meaning what kind of upgrades and how much do i ahve to spend?

the drivetrain is great can handle a good amount of power. the shifting will not be as smooth as your hondas ever. you have to just cram it in gear. you will never be disapointed when driving one. they are scary fast. i dont even think twice when i am lined up next to a honda si prelude s2000 nothing. i know of srt-4s over 120000 miles with no problems and still pulling hard. mine has 66000 and it drives like the one i got new off the showroom floor. the psi can range from 14 on the very low side to 17 that i have heard of. with an after market wastegate like i have on stock internals you can spike at like 18 or 19 and hold at 17. of course this is putting more stress on you engine and could start to make things wear out faster. and the potential for these cars is great for the amount of money you put into them like all cars it takes pocket but not as deep a one as any other car out there for the money i love mine im on my second one and if for some reasing i total this one too i will for sure be getting my third but i hope to keep the one i have now forever i wouldnt sell it for the world
o and if you managed to total 2 hondas and if it was your fault then you are gonna total an srt they are soo much faster

question thought? would it be a good idea to replace the spark plugs and fuel pump and put in a rising fuel pressure regulator? i was told to do that to my honda i dont really know what the regulator did but i never had any problems boosting?

i changed out the plugs in mine and it made my car run a lot smoother you can only push so much boost on the stock turbo and with stock internals. all those things you said will help make power but they can only do so much. the downpipe or intercooler dont determain the amount of boost but aftermarket ones will help flow air better. the stock turbo is already getting pushed pretty hard and it can only do so much more. but the best part of an srt is you can put on a larger turbo for only a few thousand bucks and then you will really have a rocket

No, the exhaust half of the turbo is built into the exhaust manifold so just swapping turbos is not an option. Find a kit specific for the SRT because they generally come with a new manifold as well. Even the S3 turbos dont match the stock manifold.
FMIC wont help so much right away as the stocker is good for 300ish whp anyhow. A downpipe however is a REALLY great mod to do and will definatley be noticed.
Stock psi depends but generally in the 11-14ish range. Depending on fuel, the stock turbo really isnt any good at anything spiking above 18-19psi.
Drivetrain and motor are only as good as you take care of them, but with care, the tranny can really hold power and the motor can take over 400hp (mine had over 500whp for over a year and a half with no probs).
Nitrous is a great alternative as long as you have the fuel to do it. Get a larger fuel pump and fpr and you can be at around 375whp in just a few mods.
