Default high rpms

So it just started yesterday when my car is at a complete stop at a light that i stay at 2k rpms, when I start to drive the rpms shoot up when I press the clutch in to shift. While driving at 35mph or more I can let go of all the pedals and just steer and my car will set itself on cruise control or start to accelerate on its own. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this? I'm going to be working on it some tomorrow since it is my day off and will have the day to take a look at it.

you have a srt4 with cruise control? lol
what year is it? if its a 2004 you can try the tps wire fix before buying a whole brand new sensor.

sound like mayb a vacum leak, or maybe it is that sensor.....do you have an oil catch can?....i know my car would rev up on me when my connection to the occ was loose....but not really progressively getting higher more like if u gave it gas the rpm would stick for a while.....good luck

I don't have an oil catch can yet. It is an 04 and will be trying a few tricks out tomorrow because I didn't have time to do anything today. I'm going to check all my hoses and go from there. Someone told me to get startup fluid and spray if on **** one by one to see if that shows what might be the problem.

COULD be vacuum. However, these cars are notorious for the TPS wires breaking. Do the rpms continue to stay high with no throttle pressure and at a standstill?

That was going to be my recommendation. Check the TPS, I bet it's on the verge of breaking. Any codes?

Car isn't pulling any codes to my knowledge but since the check engine light isn't on I haven't put it up to a reader. I can be standing out of the car and it will bring the rpms up to around 2k-2.5k.

A CEL doesnt have to be on to have TPS issues. Most of the time, its not the sensor that has failed, but the wires have broke or are breaking so the connection gets touchy. I had to pop the wires out of the connectors and re-solder them onto the crimp and reinstall to fix

Yea, we pulled off the sensor and now my CEL is on. Going to check the vacuum hoses tomorrow. Found out that my hose from the intake to the turbo was half way off so I fixed that today.

So I got it down to the shop and they told me that the sensor seems to be bad and that hard pipe is torn on the bottom side. Would anyone know of a good site to get one with an HKS flange on it?
