Default Little Problems -> not so little Quantity

Okay so I got the SRT-4 July 30th of 2004. Ever since I bought it (even before the accident) it keeps having little stupid problems, and if its not one thing its another. I just wanted to see if anyone else had any of these problems, or a list similar with their car. So here goes....

Car is an 04 with 13,856 miles and counting.

1. TSB on 4th Spark Plug wire (replaced twice in 9,000 miles)
2. Wheel Shimmy (with stock wheels/tires), balanced once, roadforce balanced the second time. I have a shimmy now, balancing didn't fix it.
3. Around 4,000 miles a brake squeak from the left front wheel. First time into service more grease was applied to the brake sliders, it went away for 5 days and its been back ever since.
4. Needed new Rotors (L/F and R/F) They were severely warped
5. Needs new front brake pads (being put on Wednesday) Squeak should be attempted to be fixed the 3rd time then also.
6. Oil leak from the main turbo housing. Washers were put on wrong from the factory. Got that fixed.
7. Condensation in the headlight encasements. Half of the L/F is fogged up and some of the R/F is fogged. (new ones being put in Wednesday)
8. Driver's side door speaker crapped out on me. Was replaced.
9. Kicker subwoofer crapped out too. Still waiting for it to come in.
10. Somehow/Someway the main power line to the battery in the distribution center came loose causing the car to completely die out on me.
11. Powersteering belt squealed constantly when cold/wet. The entire assembly was replaced (Belt/Pump/Drive/Drive ACC)
12. Bucking at low RPM acceleration (Spark Plugs maybe....getting it checked out Wed)
13. Trouble shifting into 3rd gear, occasionally the shifter refuses to go and its not being flat-spotted. (Again....Wednesday I'm getting it checked out.

My only engine mods are: Mopar BOV, Oil catch Can (courtesy of Campbell Hausfeld), and AEM Short Ram Intake. None of these have given me any trouble at my current servicing dealer. Paul Bailey's Dodge has been really awesome so far, its just becoming very annoying to have to be at the dealer every other week for parts. I'm not too sure why this is happening, but thats fine.

So....any ideas on the bucking or shifting? I think if the synchro was shot I would know for sure...it doesn't grind, the shifter just refuses to go, and thats with the clutch all the way to the floor. Maybe that stupid wire is causing problems underneath the clutch pedal? I do need to get that fixed.

Okay so I think I'm done.....anyone else have ANY of these problems? Or a list similar?

I love my little SRT-4, but in order to get out of it and into a new 2005 I need to come up with 7,000 dollars at the most. Not something I can do right now.

I have only had mine about a week, so all seems to be ok for now. I bo however have a strange flat spot going into third that sticks every so often... I am about to put on a mopar short throw shifter so I will see what happens and let you know. That should be on this week with my s3 coils and sways![sm=burnout.gif]

I have problem 11 with mine, probably just need the spray. I didn't try it yet, but sometimes it squeaks and it pisses me off. [:@] I'll look into the other things for ya. [sm=smiley23.gif]

Thanks guys.

As for the belt spray, I'm not too sure about how good it works. Someone told me (I believe it was RIPSIGUY and Bobby from my body shop) that it wasn't the best stuff to use. I forget why, and correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah RIPSIGUY's 5th gear almost seems to get "stuck" as your trying to put it into 5th and/or take it out. I've been pondering the thought of the STS, and I think this would be a good excuse to order it and try and cure the problem. Ordering it with booger bushings probably wouldn't hurt either. Hopefully thats it. I just need to save up some cash to get the STS and try it that way. *sigh* [&o] As was previously stated in a different thread, people who baby their cars have the most problems with them..... *raises hand* YUP that would be me.

Alright....off to search for the STS and bushings the cheapest I can get them.

Well the whole powersteering assembly was already replaced and fortunately doesn't squeak anymore. New belts and everything. The dealer also mentioned to me something about the spray not being all that good. I can't remember why for the life of me. I'll have them check everything on the shifter out on Wednesday too. And if I can get my friend to drive it, he'll probably be able to tell me what exactly it is.

After Wednesday I'll know more. And hopefully the sub comes in either tomorrow or Wednesday so I can have it all done at the same time. If not, oh well. Mopar STS it is for me.

i had those same shifting problems that you are describing. dodge wouldn't fix it, i had to do it myself. or actually i should say my sponsor fixed it for me

we discovered that the forks and synchros were out of alignment in the tranny causing the shifting problems. mine started out like you describe and progressively got worse. eventually i could not downshift into second at all, and 3rd would not let me in a lot of the time. 1st was very difficult to get into unless i was at a full and complete stop and i pushed in the clutch two or three times. it ended up being more cost effective to replace the tranny than to fix the existing one. not the news you probably wanted to hear, but that's what happened with me.

i also would suggest looking into a shifter besides the mopar. i just replaced my mopar with a maddog, and i am much happier with it. i was never really all that happy with the mopar, and i'm very glad that i changed it. there are other shifter options on the market that you might want to look into as an alternative, like the maddog or perrin.

the bucking at low rpms....is that with normal driving or when you get on it? could be the plugs and/or wires, or could very well be the infamous tps problem.

i have not had too many problems with my srt until the last week. seems the damn car just hates me right now. i think it knows that i'm tearing apart this week and is mad at me. we tried to be proactive with fixing potential issues before they became problems, so i luckily have not had to deal with many issues. changed the plugs and wires early, and i change the plugs every other oil change. moved the wires under the clutch and fixed the tps wire before it broke. the only major issue i had was a faulty slave cylinder replaced under warranty, and the tranny which was replaced by my sponsor.

however in the last week, my wires are shot and sparking to my strut brace, my passenger side axle broke at the cv joint, my speed sensor shorted to ground, my plugs were fouled beyond belief, my cat was clogged due to the massive gas being dumped by the short (car was blowing raw fuel out the exhaust, we lit it up, made a nice little fire lol), and i broke the bolt to my top motor mount and it's now stuck in the bracket and we can't get it out. it's been a fun week [:@] can't wait to see what problems we run into when installing all my goodies over the next week or two.....

Which ones are before the accident and which are after? The only problems mine has had so far were the ones it had when I bought it, such as a few switch lights being out, nose damage from their lot idiot putting the front plate bracket on wrong and the top windshield strip being loose. The red paint for the SRT-4 on the fuel injector cover has flaked off in spots, I have it off the car right now and have stripped the rest off so that I can repaint it. Other than that it has just been cosmetic from flying debris and a break in attempt when I was at a store, which I will be getting taken care of soon.

my shifter is a little cranky when it is cold it does't like to go from 3 to 2 when cold. also i have started having a problem where the car feels like it wants to keep accelerating even when i let off the gas completly in 2 gear. when i depress the clutch it idles normal doesn't rev to 2000 rpms like iv'e heard from so many people it's weird it's only at low speeds say like a parking lot at walmart. just a weird thing doesn't do it in 1st or 3rd.[sm=dontgetit.gif][sm=dontgetit.gif]
