Bit of crap on the tailpipes
Just picked up my new black 2004 today. Love the car. One question, is it normal for there to be a bit of black residue on the tailpipes. I assume this is something that will be remedied when i install an OCC?
its normal... just gotta keep on it... apply some Eagle one chrome/protection paste twice a week. it makes it easier with just a wipe

It might not have been as much of a problem if they built the car with an OCC already on it. The black residue will happen with any car, but it's more frequent with turbocharged cars. It is mainly from the water that forms in the exhaust during warm up that blows out as you drive it which is why it's only on the bottom part of the exhaust tips. You could eliminate this by drilling a weep hole in the bottom of the exhaust tip an inch or two back from the opening. Chrysler use to do this in the mufflers below the outlet pipe to eliminate water/condensation build up from rusting the muffler out from the inside.
You can get it off. My car has 30k miles on it and they're as clean as the day I bought it. Get some Never Dull from Eagle one. It's a a bunch of cotten wadded into a tin can. Took me about 20 minutes to get both tail pipes clean but it works good.
Any metal polish will get it off as will any wheel/metal/chrome cleaner. I have went through a tank of gas and done a lot of driving over the holiday weekend without any crud on my tailpipes for a change. Maybe it's finally out of the system with the OCC being on for a year now or maybe it's because I have driven it more for longer instead of short trips.
