Default New to the SRT

Hello everyone, my name is Nick.

I have an operitunity to purchase an 05 SRT ACR edition. Car has 86k miles and overall is in great condition. I have a few questions as any noob would have.

The clutch, may need some work. It engages about 1-2" from the floor and its really hard to shift into gears. Can this be adjusted or is a new clutch in order? Could it also be the shifter itself?

When should the car develope boost? Granted at idle its runs about ~20psi but a few jabs on the gas pedal reads 0psi. This is my first forced induction car so boost is new to me. I'm assuming it only developes boost under load when the car is moving.

As far as mods go. Whats out there for bolt ons? I wanna increase the perform a little but nothing to serious. Intake, headers, maybe bigger injectors, aftermarket BOV.

With the info provided, coming from an auto auction, what would be a good opening bid?

Thanks for the input, Hopefully I get the car and I'll be sticking around here.

-Nick

ModernPerformance.com is a good place to get an idea of what is available for performance mods on a SRT-4....

you will not build any boost whatsoever at idle or without load, correct. You are reading vaccum. Being the displacement, factory tuning, and the size turbo that came on the car boost builds very quick, say in the 1500-2000rpm range to begin. Full boost comes on around 5000rpms (i would have to look at an old stock dyno of mine to confirm this).
Bolt ons? Where to start! Everything and everything is availiable for this car, its just up to you and your budget where you want to begin.
There are no headers for this car, just an exhaust manifold, which stock is the exhaust half of the turbo itself so there are not a lot of options for upgrading without going larger or different turbo. Because this car is more advanced than old school, just adding injectors and a fpr will not necessarily work. In fact, the stock injectors (blue ring) handle quite a bit of power without needing an upgrade up until close to the 300whp mark.

70x7 gave good advice on the car and upgrades. And dustyloins gave a really good place for performance parts, probably actually the top place to go. I would say these are my top places for parts. And one to two inches from the floor is pretty good for the clutch to engage. However, one to two inches from the top would be a totally different story. If you are having a hard time getting the car into gear the shifter and transmission linkage bushings could be worn out. If you put new bogger shifter linkage bushings in the car it may shift easier. I am not saying this is the case without being there. This is just sometimes a cause of why it is harder to get into gear.

I have driven high proformance cars before and none of them have ever had a clutch engage so close to the ground, theres almost no play at all. My dad's C6 vette engages mid stroke, same as my pontiac Firehawk. I know they are different manufactures but I figure clutch dynamics are relatively universal. Is there a way you can adjust the engage/disengage point beside replacing the clutch fork/bushing/cylinder? Thanks for the input

mine was about half way. Isnt there an adjustment nut or something underneath by the pedal so you can change the engagement point a little? Im 99% sure there is.

I will check into that. On a side note, If the clutch needs replacing, shifter fork , tob, all that good stuff. It gives me better leverage to get the car cheaper. I can replace all that myself pretty easy.

I went out to look at mine and I guess mine would be halfway also. Seems quicker but could be because of the performance clutch feel to it and how the car moves forward. Oh and to answer the question about the pedal.

If you look under the dash where the rod attaches to the pedal the end of it is slotted. Here is a pic of the end of the rod.

Thats good news . I may be able to adjust it from there. If that doesnt help the hard shifting then clutch fork plate will have to be replaced. Whats with the plate going out on these cars?

The bolt should be 8mm and you can push or pull it up or down as you can see. Just hope the guy before you didnt already adjust it or you may need a new clutch. Good luck on the new car. You will enjoy it I am sure.
