First oil change??
I'm gonna stick with my Mobil 1, it's easier for me to get and I love it. I've had Amsoil before and it was just fine, no complaints here with their products. I'm also sticking with the Mobil 1, because Chrysler/Dodge recommends it and because of an '88 Mustang GT convertible that a friend of mine has had since new. He has ran Mobil 1 in it since new and the engine has a few mods on it, but has never been taken apart EVER. I don't even think the valve covers have been off of it and it it's still running like new.........................................at 360,000+ miles on it and still going strong.[sm=smiley3.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]Because of this, he swears by Mobil 1 synthetic and if it can keep a Ford going that long, then it must be great stuff.[sm=smiley36.gif]
I used to think synthetic oils were a waste of money or something for luxury cars, but I've come to realize that if you plan to keep your car for any length of time, syn's are the way to go....[sm=smiley4.gif]
I would use mobile one, we had a motor go bad and the dealer said it was the oil. Fortunately we were running mobile one and mobile cut a check for a new motor, try that with amsoil. Another thing about amsoil, you can't mix it with any other oil. it will cause damage, not compatiable. What happens if you are low on oil and don't have any amsoil on hand, your stuck. As far as changing oil, go the distance. When you change the oil, there is a brief moment when the oil is not circulating due to it filling up the filter, no oil=bad. I would go the 10,000 miles between changes, that's just my opinion. My last car, which I still have, got changed every one to two years, and it runs great, got 200,000 on it and doesn't use a drop, and I put lots of miles on it, 20,000 is not uncommon between changes. Well that's my two cents, for what it's worth. PEACE
First of all, I'm not promoting Amsoil. According to everyone I've talked to and all the information from web sites, forums, etc., Amsoil is compatable with all oils, both syn and non syn. You're right about implying that Amsoil wouldn't "cut a check" like Mobil did...according to the Amsoil website, they've never had a claim of engine failure due to their oil. Are they lying? I really doubt it. In these times of frivolous lawsuits, it would be impossible to keep a thing like that secret. Especially with the major oil companies just looking for a way to get rid of this pain in their side....
Your logic doesn't match what the designers of the SRT-4 advise as well as service managers, mechanics, and people like me who have been driving for nearly 40 years. You've evidently owned some very well-made cars. Don't get me wrong, Mobil 1 is a great product, it's in my SRT-4 at this moment. But there's no way I'm keeping it in a turbocharged engine for 10,000 miles, especially since it only has 1100 miles on it, a.k.a. break-in time. I change every 3,000/3 months 'cause my baby runs HOT, HOT HOT. I know Amsoil says you can go longer, but Amsoil isn't making my car payments. Have a Happy Easter, my friend!!!(No bunny rabbit smiley available)[sm=smiley4.gif][sm=smiley4.gif] (Peace was my profession - SAC/US Air Force)

The whole idea of changing oil every 3000 miles is true for carborated vehicles, and vehicles that undergo hard conditions. In a carborated car, the oil gets contaminated with gasoline, thus the need for shorter oil changes. When you step on a carborated cars gas pedel, it dumps a lot of gas into the cylinders, and some of it leaks past the pistions into the oil thus contaminating it.....on todays fuel injected cars, the gas is much more carefully controlled. There is no threat of contamination. I have heard to change the filter every 5000, but todays cars burn so clean, it really doesn't make sense to follow the same maintanence that cars 50years ago follow. The money I save on oil changes will pay for my stage 2. A friend of mine works at an olds dealership and saw an olds go 60,000 miles on the original oil before it ran out and started giving the owner problems....I think technology has caught up with the oil as well. But if you are going to be rough on the car, I do agree that changing the oil more often may be benifical. Like I said it's just my opinion, for whatever thats worth. PEACE

A famous American who's name skips my mind for the moment...
OK, so it's down to opinions. I have no problem with that. But how do you explain DCX and PVO (the folks responsible for the SRT's) recommending 3,000 miles/3 month oil changes? Do they want me in their waiting room every 90 days drinking their coffee and eating their donuts? If for a sec they thought they could get away with longer oil changes, don't you think a smart business/businessman would do it??? It all boils down to a business decision: Oil changes don't bring in a lot of $$ to the dealer. But it's cheaper than replacing an engine under warranty. P.S.
May the Easter Bunny bring you an Easter Basket full of Amsoil!!!!![sm=smiley36.gif]
I'm just messing with you, seriously, have a good holiday and remember the reason for the season...[sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]

Last time I checked my maintanence book, there were two sides, one for the rough/hard useres, which is 3000mi, and another side which is 5000mi, which coincides with the word I heard about droping the filter every....5000mi. My 2000 vw called for oil every 10000, my 90 miata called for oil every 7500, and yes the vw was a turbo with syn. from the factory. It is a matter of opinion, and changing the oil every 3000 will usually get the car looked over by a mechanic every 3000, so it could be good. But also Dodge recommends regular oil, my car came with an amendum, which stated that regular oil is the "recommended" oil and the service agreements included regular oil. That might explain the short intervals. I am not trying to pick a fight, I am just using my logic, granted it may be wrong or bias, but the oil debate has been going on for years and it won't be settled here. So have a great holiday. It's great to be able to chat with like minded people(we all got the hottest car out didn't we). PEACE
True fact dude, we DO have the hottest car out there...I just want to take care of mine in the best way possible. After being around high performance fighters and bombers in my Air Force career for 21 years, I know one thing, they DON'T skimp on the oil.................

Yeah, I can agree with that, whatever it takes to keep em like new. One of my instructors told me about this guy in New York who buys a new BMW every year or two, and the fist thing he does is take a hammer and puts a lot of dents in it, he says it is to keep the car thieves away!! Maybe that's the newest thing in car alarms..haha. Just goes to show there are different ways of looking at everything. Maybe I will paint my srt flat black and take all the srt bodywork off, keep the theives away and make it a true sleeper, people will think I got a stock neon, and then surprise em.......
