It's around $300 and it wins comparison tests all the time. It will blow away anything in the $100 price range. This thing works from like 2 miles away unless the cops are using laser. If they get you with that it's like instant no matter how far you are.

The passport 8500 rocks. Definitely make sure it is an 8500 x50 if you get one. Red is 300, blue is 330.

You might find similar success with the v-1, others seem to like that a lot, as well.

Me, I went with the 8500 for the add-on capability. Shortly I will be having the laser jammer installed to go with it. Fully legal (laser isn't regulated by the fcc, yet), and it makes you ionvisible to laser.

Then it's [sm=gears.gif].

It is the Radar detector that makes us all feel more secure about speeding.

I love that last quote "Makes us feel secure about speeding". LOL

Hey, the 8500 is a nice piece, but the last Car and Driver test I saw, the Valentine One kicked it's butt!!!

I paid $14.99 for mine at Radio Shack, seriously!!!! (at that price, I bought three) It has saved may butt many times.

I agree the v-1 is slightly superior in directional range, but it doesn't give you the laser jammer as an option. IMO that puts the 8500 ahead by a mile. Plus - I certainly don't need any more sensitivity - the thing picks up 5-0 miles ahead.

Holy somkes - 14.99 - and I htought the 100$ models I had seen were cheap - what is it called - I gotta' check this one out.

Can the cops tell when you have a radar jammer??? Just a question in general, not pertaining to the 8500.

They don't need to , the fact that they just shot you and got a reading of 55 mph when you are flying at over 100 will key him off to it. I hear they do have "detector detectors", though.

Anyway - I am not talking about radar jammers which are completely illegal; I am talking about laser jammers - which are as of this date - completely legal since the fcc doesn't regulate laser signals.
