Silly Stangs
As a current diesel mechanic at an International Harvester dealership, I get the distinct pleasure of working on phord trucks all the time. (The IH 444 and the phord powerstroke v-8 are the same basic engine.) Yet somehow, when its in a phord, I hate it. I had a '90 mustang years ago. It was an ok car. I just hate how phords are built (put together) for the most part. Like this one old mechanic I work with said one day when we were both looking at a super duty something or other, "Ford never did learn how to build a vehicle". Their crap is so often needlessly hard to work on and that twin I beam, what a bunch of junk. Strong-maybe. Heavy, stupid, in the way, bad for keeping camber/aligned and funny feeling to drive-definitely. Chevy people dont feel left out, I don't like those either but I like the way Chevys drive(feel) and for the most part they are put together sensibly. Fords are just silly. So, in conclusion, must also be thier owners.
I realize I have strayed a little from the topic, but I feel anytimes a good time for Ford and Chevy bashing. :-D

Not to BASH any car owners out there, but in the late eighty's I learned my lesson on racing Mustang owners. I had a Daytona Turbo Z, 2.2L turbo 1. HIGHLY modified. (intercooler with sprayers, Mopar race head, Mopar big turbo kit, Mopar computer, exhaust work, HD shift forks and transaxle case braces from Mopar, boost controller, Centerforce clutch....i think you get the idea.)
The last Mustang I raced with that car I was a 90LX with 3.73"s, pulleys, chip. GT40 intake. I handed him his head on a platter, but he could not accept loosing the race so he stayed in it and almost killed himself and an innocent motorist.
Moral of the story, THERE IS ALWAYS A CAR FASTER THAN YOURS OUT THERE! Some of the pimply-faced fox body owners back then would rather die than loose a race.

never underestimate a fox body mustang. It seems like all of your beefs are with the owners, and not the car. The car is a great car and a good building platform. I give every fast car props and I know my place in the food chain.
Respect comes from the owner, not the car.
FYI: My 90' notch looks stock other than the bullit rims and cowl hood, is quieter than stock, and has no lopey cam idle. Yet its probably gonna end up in over 650hp on pump gas when it is finished, and thats a conservative estimation. So you never know when one is gonna blow your doors off.

I work for ford but drive a dodge im the smart one. A guy i work with has a 05 stage 1 roush gt stang we have ran twice now and he will not give up the fact that his 40,000 dollar sports car is gettin walked by a NEON, its kind of funny if you see one give it hell you will pull as long as it is not charged.
Ive seen some home built v6 stangs w/ 491 whp w/ twin turbo, thought that was a frankenstein of a car seeing as how ive never seen a kit. I think that it is neat how they modified 16g turbos to work w/ their 6's. Also the SVO mustangs, which were very nice IMO, were moderately hated upon and could be why they never made much of em. My friend modded his kicked the crap outta cobra stangs and fox bodied GTs and they couldnt even take it...why would v6 and 8 stang owners hate on the SVO? Id consider that an accomplishment.

I've got a new Hemi Charger, but I've driven a Mustang for 20 years (same Mustang). I've got a Fox body and a 2000 GT. I've had products from about every company, good and bad, and NO ONE has the upperhand with regards to quality in my opinion. I've had good and bad with all of them.
With regards to "the best" out there, I've got a 500 horse '65 with pulls 9's on a skidpad. It's all that and a bag of chips. And I figure there are lots of guys here who have faster. And, if it's like most every other forum I've been on, probably 1/4 of you ACTUALLY HAVE that car . . . and half of those people are being truthful about their cars.
If the forums were all correct, at my best estimate, there are 7.3 Million Neons out there running sub-10 second quarter mile times. There are AT LEAST 43 Million Fox Mustangs in the 9's, and EVERY male child under the age or 14 in California has a Viper GT/S Type-R V-Tec Quad turbocharged V-10 hemi that Dodge only made 3 of and the first 2 were wrecked breaking the national speed record. Of course, those were stock, but all the kids in Cali have theirs modded to quadruple the horsepower.
I won't even comment on the millions of sub-10 Accords and Evo's out there. It's ridiculous. Basically guys, if YOU DON'T HAVE A SUB 10 SECOND CAR, you're the only one on the internet that DOESN'T have one.
We all have our favorite kill story where our Escort smoked that Lambo off the line, but, odds are, if you have a SUPER kill story, something went wrong with the other guy's car. Or it wasn't what you thought it was.
Honestly guys, I'm an old Chrysler guy, and I love 'em. I just bought a Dodge, and I'm tickled with it. And I've driven Mustangs for years. But take this for what it's worth. In my area, there are about 5 Mustang "GT's" with pretty graphics, awesome tires and exhaust . . . and a V6. I've had countless Accords with nitros pull up to my wifes 2000 GT (REAL ONE), and talk smack about how they trash the new Mustang GT's all the time. Generally, I find they've waxed some V6 poser and have no idea what a real GT runs like. Eh, most kids don't have GT's. They have 6's dressed up like them.
ANYTHING can be beat. Basically, if you can drive your car on the street AT ALL, it isn't REALLY that fast, is it? I mean in the competitive sense compared to real weekend racecars that run on tracks all around America.
But, back to the wisdom. Street racing is like the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.
