You won't damage anything. Your turbo will spool faster.

well the major issue i always had was the electronic cut out. the motors tend to fail, causing the plates to be stuck partialy open. this causes leaks and we all know how good those are.

i also have concerns about the ecu pulling timing with these cut out's. we all know that it takes the ecu time to adjust to new mods and changing conditions. well if you go from a full exhaust to a sudden release point, there's the possibility that the ecu will pull timing thinking that something is wrong. this has been shown to happen with the addition of dp's and catbacks if they are installed and immedietly put on a dyno. so it's possible that it's doing the same on the cut out. now i haven't seen any evidence of this, but i haven't seen much to the contrary either.
If it retards the timing, will the boost level drop?

the boost levels should be the same, but the timing would change and cause a reduction in power.

How do you tell if the timing has been retarded?

unless you have a data logger or a obd, the only real way to tell is that you'll feel it. the car just won't feel as fast as it should.
