Default coolant fun

Boy did i have a jackass day. I was cleaning my baby and decided to do some fluid checking while i was at it. Well long story short i didn't get the radiator cap back on all the way and after a bit i noticed my temperature rising and steam coming from the front right of the hood. First of all, is it ok to use green antifreeze mix. The fluid in there previously looked peachish. Second, do you think i may have caused any damage. The temp only got about 3/4 to the top. Could the leaking antifreeze have done damage to anything below? I noticed my ac belt was squealing like a bird with rabies but that has passed. Thanks.

I know pep boys sells it. Make sure it is HOAT(I think that is the acrynom) compatible. Prestone makes a version of it.

Does anyone think i may have caused any damage. The system went totally dry. I was thinking it could damage the water pump or the radiator. Like i said, i don't think the car overheated but i am still very worried about her.

Just fill it up and put the cap on. Make sure you dont have any leaks and get it to operation temp. If there is a problem with your temp then, Id say you have a problem. If not it would seem you cought it in time. Ive done the same thing to my truck (Old Trooper) a few times with blown hoses on the highway and ran the system dry before I noticed it, but no problems later from such a feat.
You most likel will be okay, but keep an eye on your temp. guage faithfuly from now on.

Next time you check your coolant use the resivior bottle to check the level and top it when needed.

Well the coolant reserve is always empty so that is not a good way for me to check it. I will certainly be more careful when i check it from now on though.

My reserve is never empty. I don't think that is right.
