Popping sound right side on turns
First let me start off by saying its not a CV joint. Its a hard pop/snapping sound that you feel in the floor also when it happens. PLUS
Now thats been said, this morning on the way the work the car lost all gears and had to be towed home. Fearing trans problem but found the passenger side axle broke. Thought well maybe I had been wrong. Got a new axle and put it in, test drive and sound still there. When I took the old axle in for credit I asked the counter guy about it. He asked if I had the retaining clip opening in the up position; that Dodge said they had to be put on that way... WTF.. UP position???? If there is a up position how do you know where the axle has to be indexed to be UP?????
Anybody have any ideas what it really could be I'm missing? Thanks

Does the noise get more repetitive as you gain speed? Something i would worry about is buying an axle from the local part stores, I checked the reviews and they were nothing but problems for people. I bought dealer axles. Control arm busing may be in question if the sound is not repetitive with the speed of the tire.
