Fun at Jiffy Lube
Hi All,
After finding my Dodge dealer's oil change area closed due to being repaved, I was forced to do the unthinkable....go by my local Jiffy Lube for an oil change (oil changes, car repairs, car washing, etc. are a no-no at my condo complex).
As soon as I pulled into the empty lot (first warning) I was reminded of why I haven't been to one of these places in several years. The "greeter" wouldn't let me drive my SRT-4 over the oil change bay, he insisted he had to do it for "insurance reasons". Never mind he squealed the tires in doing so.
After pointing out that I had my own oil, 5 quarts of Amsoil 10W-30, I dared to duck into the tiny "waiting room" for a few minutes.....not smart.
After a few minutes, the manager came in to ask me what the hoses and small container were for on the left side of the engine bay (OCC). (second warning)
A few minutes after that, they asked me what the recommended tire pressure was for the car......duh, check the door frame, bozo!! (third warning)
Finally, the manager presented me with a half quart of Amsoil that he said was "not needed" to fill the engine. (final warning)
I paid my bill ($28) which included a $2 military discount, and swore I'd NEVER be back again!!!!!
Dusty
(Which will be worth more in the future, gold or oil?)

I have known some real low grade morons that have been hired by those types of places, which is why I will NEVER go to them. I would have either gone to another Dodge dealer or done it myself.
Smart move bringing your own oil to JL. I see people with 2.7L engines sludged up at 60k, with a pile of JL reciepts. Makes me wonder what they use for bulk oil.
They charged you $28.00 and you brought your own stuff??!!! Holy crap, I only would have charged $7.21 plus $2.00 for disposal.
Jiffy did a good job of marketing in the early 90's. Now, the average oil change comes out of there somewhere north of $60.00. ( I did my research )
Moral of the story. " Things are not always as they seem".
Hey Dusty, better watch that drain plug. Ten to one they overtightened it and it will be tight coming out next time.

Dusty...NO...you didn't!!!
Those places just plain scare me.
Hopefully your dealer will be open again soon.

Let that be your last time taking your car to Jiffy Lube. I use to always go there with my car and I use to take my parents cars to get oil changes too. My mom has a BMW 540i and they messed up the oil pan b/c of putting too much oil in the engine. They were like, "This car takes a crazy amount of oil[X(]." Little did they know that they were putting too much oil in the car. Too little oil is better than too much oil too. They also messed up the oil pan in another car we use to have.
They hire anyone and put a wrench in their hands. None of them know what they are doing. I'll never go to them again.
I take my car to Midas and the dealerships.
