Default cold air intakes and wet roads?

I bought a k&n typhoon cai and im waiting for it to arrive but my question is is it ok to drive with a cai in the rain as long as you dont drive through any deep puddles? Will i need to convert it to short ram when it rains and does the k&n come with a splash guard? Also, anyone with the aem cai, does it come with a splash gaurd because i heard it did? Thanks alot

K&n's are one of the most dangerous in the rain, because it is one of the lowest. But you have to drive through a good puddle to do damage. We have had 2 different cai's in psi chick's car since new (2 years, 2 months) and no problems. Never converted to short ram. Ipp cai and now jmb 3"...

And yes aem and mopar cai's come with a splash guard.

noooooo!!!! don't listen to them. You should garage the car and drive an alternative when it rains or your car will blow up!!!!!

just kidding - you should be fine. Just be careful, and never hit the gas hard when you are going through puddles.

On a side note - if you are concerned, having the ability to convert to a short ram is a plus imo. I run an aem sri and am very happy with it. I have friends with the k & n who are happy too. Heck - the stock airbox seems to be fine for many I know as well. It's really about what you like personally, and the K & n is a fine choice.

I have the K & N Typhoon CAI and have not converted it to a short ram, except when I first put it on I had it as a short ram, and have never had any problems. I had the Mopar/Iceman CAI on my '99 Neon R/T for the 3 years I had it with no problems. Just be careful driving and avoid high water, regular puddles are fine though, simply realize that if you go into one that's too big/deep your gonna wind up swimming home. The K & N doesn't have a splash guard and I've never needed one yet since the wheel well splash shield keeps it from getting to the CAI/filter.

Me too. Blew up one DX and 1 month later I had one SRT-4. Sucked at first, but after all - best engine seizure ever - if it didn't happen, I would not have gotten this car, either.
Hydrolock definitely can happen if you aren't smart about going easy in puddles. Mine was a sri, and I was extra stupid(read - drove through a forge after a rain storm with my foot on the gas HARD. - duh).
