to the track I went
Hmmm,,,,,after 1500 miles on my car, a friend of mine and me went to the races last night. He has a corvette and was wondering what it would run through the quarter. I hadn't "intended" to run my car, but after him dunning me for 30 minutes, I finally gave in. I had never ran a car through the 1/4 mile before, and in all honesty, hadn't even attended a race. But, after watching him run his a couple of times, I decided that it wouldn't hurt to just see how it would do.
My first track experience. A little nervous. The only thing I really knew to do was to watch the lights until time to go and not kill the motor....LOL. I wasn't about to drop the clutch at a high RPM, so I kind of feathered it off the line. I got some wheel hop and backed off just a little and finished up my first run. I ran a 14.8 through the quarter. On my second run, I got off the line a little better, without wheel hop, and did a 14.4. Yeah,,,I know, still not sparkling, but this was my first time at a track, and since my car was new, I hadn't really even done my wide open throttling with it. I'd like to think that I could have done better with another run or two, but I didn't want to push it with my car. I will say this, for the guys who run their cars, getting off the line seems really hard to do in these things. As I am not a racer, per se, I would need a lot of practice on how to RPM and modulate the clutch getting off the line. I've heard of people running the quarter in stock SRT-4's and nailing a 13.9. They must really know what they are doing. Oh,,,,get this. On my second run, I was up against a stock mustang GT. He beat me off the line, but I just barely beat him at the finish. I was pretty pleased by that. I think his mustang was stock and an 03.

On the street you'll easily take mustangs. Very heavy and very slow stock.
Ive never taken mine to the track, Im afraid to. But those arent bad at all for first runs. Theres people in the new england area that their first runs made a 17 second run look good......kinda sad. And theres also someone who on the street can pull less than a 2.0 60 foot in an almost stock srt-4 and toast an srt-4 that runs consistent 12.6/12.8s in the quarter.
It all depends on the elevation/condition/track prep and most importantly the driver.
Good luck next time you go.

Some have ran as well as 13.7 stock. The weather and track conditions as well as elevation can make huge differences, the closest track to me is one of the worst around and the turbo cars are consistently behind what they should be running by a full second or more.
it's all about the launch. next time you try it, go from about 1800rpms (maybe even 1500 if it's a sticky track) and slip the clutch some. don't go full throttle until you feel the tires grip without hopping. then just nail it and wot all the way down.
i did a 13.8 stock with a 2.1 60', it's doable, you just have to practice! and we all sucked our first time out, you got that out of the way and you'll get better and better as you run more. congrats on your first runs! hopefully we'll make a track junkie out of you yet
