I wonder
Yeah I'm sure the Dodge Charger would be an awesome cop car but I have not driven one. I have however, driven a late Crown Vic rental car on vacation in Orlando. While I am not a Ford fan, I must say I was very impressed. For a big car with a small (4.6) engine they really get down the road. They also drive and handle very well. Now considering what I was driving was a run of the mill CV and not a Hopped up Police car, I can see why anybody would like them. As far as any Intrepid being faster, I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but AM saying that I really need to drive one of those if they run THAT good.
On a related subject, When I was a young man running around Flint back in the 80's I knew of a kid who's dad pulled some strings and got him a low mileage 77 or 78 Dodge Coronet police car w/a 440. All he did to it was put headers on it and an aftermarket ignition. Man that thing was fast. I mean seriously quick and w/top speed as well. Those cars were monsters. He could roast the fairly large Goodyears with ease. Good luck trying to outrun one!

I forget which magazine it was, probably SCC, that had a run down on all the cars being tested by law enforcement for use. They had the Dodge Intrepid, Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor, Chevy Caprice and a Hummer. The Intrepid beat them all in just about every way.
Funny thing. I mentioned the green 01 Intrepid ES the RI state police have in my last post. I was following Lilplug down the highway today (her friends SRT4 was not running to good to say the least) and there it was!!!! The Green ES with a car pulled over.....looked like racial profiling to me...LOL (black cop, white motorists)
Anybody in RI or Mass remember this. It's forest green and the plate is a regular private pass plate, it is BV-914.

Now come'on, mopar, you cant toss that out without backing it up
Rip, that car was used last spring as a tester by the Maryland State Police. If they dont have some fielded soon, Id be very surprised. Regular police package production starts this month, it'll take a while for them to fill orders, I imagine.
Most states dont do their own independent testing of police cars. Most just see what the Michigan SP does. They have a shootout style test every so often. I know the Magnum was included in last springs testing, but I dont think the results had been released last I checked.
Ah, here it is.

Imagine, cops having a 145 or better top end. As opposed to the wimpy Crown Vics
And it it only gets 15 in the 1/4, it'll kick all thier butts
