Default MOPAR oil filter change?

A call to a mail-order source for MOPAR goodies found the 5281090 SRT-4 oil filter has now been replaced by the 4781452BB oil filter - which also fits my '05 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6. I ordered two cases - $33/case was just too good. I verified this change with my local Jeep pusher... MOPAR is trying to reduce duplication, I guess. Thought you might want to know... guess everyone already does, though...

I think it was done for clearance reasons. The "090" fits everything else, including Hemi's.

I switched from Mopar filters to Purolator PURE-ONE MICRONIC filter. The oil comes out amazingly clean after 3k. Cleaner than with the Mopar filter.

The NAPA Gold filter is highly rated by most "oil web sites" as is the Mobil-1. There are also magnet clamps you can attach to the outside of any oil filter to trap the metal particles........they run from about $10 to $15.

Yes, I have read that the NAPA Gold is an excellent choice also.

I always wondered if the filter magnet was just a gimmick. Does it just stick to the bottom of the filter? Remember the magnetic fuel "Moleculator" they were selling in the 80"s that clamped on the fuel line???? "Get 40 more MPG with the Ronco Fuel Moleculator!!!!!"....and well include the free automatic nose picker!!, But wait, thats not all......( sorry, got carried away in Ronco marketing tactics) LOL, a magnet that realigned the hydrocarbon molecules. Yeah right, and my dog knows how to use the toilet too! LMAO

Yeah you could stick any ol high powered magnet to the oil filter and it would work just fine.
BTW, Fram P3600 for me thank you very much. Under 4 bucks at Wal-Mart I believe.

K&N Oil filters on my car ONLY (they are like 9 bucks)

(I heard some Fram Horror Stories about the paper element inside disintigrating and being littered thru the oil passages)
