Default Check valve for 03 PCV valve

I have been hearing around the srt forums that the 03 pcv valve leaks pressure into the crank case in the higher boost levels. So this is what i did i went to a dyno days at my local performance shop where there was a 2005 srt 4 and a 2003 pt gt w/ some kick *** mods at least on the pt the srt4 was new and stock he upgraded from a pt to a srt. Well anyway guys are saying that they are gaining up to 20 horse power by putting a one way valve on there pcv line before the catch can or somewhere along the line. So the PT ran a dyno w/ check valve on and i believe he was runnin anout 269 hp to the wheels. We figured we should test the car w/out the check valve on and see what kind of horse power we would loose with it off amazingly enough it was exactly the same no loss or gain in power w/ check valve installed. So my personal opinion is to first make sure that your PCV is leaking before you install check valve "because PCV is already a one way valve"and if the pcv is working no reason to install another one way valve if the first one is workin well.

Good thinking. You are probably correct.

Only arguement to the contrary is ----- better safe than sorry. I am thinking about throwing a check valve on there, though, myself.

you only need one if your a 03 the o4 and 05 SRT pcv valves are as good as gold and if you want to check the condition of your pcv valve all you need is to add a little air pressure to it w/ a bike tire pump or something like that just pull the line off and pump or even blow if you are able to get air past the pcv valve then you need a one way valve if you are looking at throwing one on just to be safe right on more power to ya but to me it is just more stuff under the hood that might not be needed but you are right BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY

'04 here, and with all of the oil blow by I catch, there has got to be a little pathway for air. Check valves are cheap enough that I don't mind plunking down a couple $ for one. Besides, the PCV valve we are speaking of has a pesky habbit of going bad. What works today might not work tomorrow.

04 and 05 have the exact same pcv valve. (i just love how people need to feel that their year is special lol). i have an 03, but i changed the valve cover to an 04 one. i have gone through three pcv valves already, and probably need to get another one soon. luckliy they're only like $3! i have a check valve in, and the purpose of it is to act as a suppliment valve for when the pcv valve goes bad (because it will) and starts to leak. also, they have a much stronger seal than the stock pcv valves, and many who have them have found that catch cans are no longer necessary. i just removed my catch can this weekend because i have not had any oil in it for about 4 months (since i put in the check valve). you will notice a difference in power only if your pcv valve is already leaking.

it's really just a nice way to ensure that you don't get leaks when the valve goes bad......

if that $8 check valve is the plastic one don't bother. i initially had one of those and it melted. spend the extra money and get the metal one, it's well worth it.

correct me if i'm rong ...but the pcv valve is on the driver side on the valve cover...so you pressurise your cover.

i dont know if the passenger side is one two but when i look in the manual shop they don't say anything about the passenger side

will check again

the PCV valve is on the passenger side of the valve cove at least it is on my car mine threads into the valve cover and the 04 and 05s just twist and click in it is the little 90 degree valve that has a hose runnin to your throttle body like a few people here in the forum have pointed out if you have a lot of oil in your catch can or in and around your throttle body your PCV is most likely leakn[:-]
