Default Any aftermarket/improved axles on the horizon?? Also lookin for other trouble spots.

Hey everyone, I am in the process of searching for a 03-05 SRT-4 and I have done extensive research on this subject. One of the 2 main issues to arise from these cars are....

1) Axles

2) Transmissions

As for the axles, from my understanding 04/05 axles are better than 03's but I still hear people killing the newer axles with stock or at least decent power and decent hook.

Any word on aftermarket units, or a even better upgrade?

As for trannies, what are people doing to mess them up? I hear they sound like they are going to explode, even when functioning correctly, any confirmation on that.

It just seems like if people miss shifts, and they mess up the syncros or bend clutch forks. Any upgrades on the horizon too??

Thankyou for enduring my nutty questions, but also any other trouble spots, that I need to look for?

Thankyou in advance.

1. While there is one set out there, made by DSS, personally, I feel the newer stock axles are good enough. Those were made better with feedback from the 2003 SCCA ProRally SRT-4 team. Anyone killing these with stock power is just not driving right. Shock loads are the enemy. Many cars with big power are working just fine with +04 axles. For under $300 for a set, they are a bargain.

2. Just plain abusing them. They are not quiet, but for a stock FWD tranny to take +300 whp, they do fine.

No upgrades beyond just flat replacing an 03 with an 04 and up unit. Dont missshift, or force a shift. Losing a race beats buying a new set of shift forks.

Thanks man, i wasnt too sure since I dont own one yet. But I will take this car to the track and I will put a slick on it, i know M&H makes them, my bud with the stage 3 kit, put a flat spot on his 03 axle but went to the newer ones and has been fine since. I just wondered if he was the exception, rather that the rule.

stock axles are just fine. if you break them, you screwed up somehow. i know this first hand as i have broken two axles. one was just because it was a stock 03 axle with like 80 passes on it and it kinda just went. after that i got a set of 05 axles ($200 at mpsc) and was fine. i broke the driver's side axle at the track, but it was my fault (started my burn out too far back in the water box). i replaced it with a 04 axle and it's been fine ever since. i don't drive my car easy, and i'm at the track almost every weeked launching at 4500rpms on 26" slicks. stock axles hold up just fine if you don't do anything stupid.

as for the tranny's, there really aren't that many problems with them. not sure why you are getting the impression that there is. these actually are very strong trannys. the shift selector is one piece that does break, however you can now get a seperate upgraded piece so if it breaks it's not that big of a deal. the rest of the tranny is fine. in actuallity, a lot of the tranny issues that you hear people complain about are actually clutch issues. the cltuch gives out on these cars way before the tranny will. although the stock clutch is a pretty good unit, and can hold around 300-350tq, so it's not gonna go too quickly.
