RE: can 225 tires fit on the stock wheels?
Its not safe. Theres not enough rim to "fully" seal the bead. The absolute widest you can go, and its still pushing it, is a 205. Some people have run 225s on the stock wheels, but at a 6" width....its really not the best idea in the world. Buy wider rims, then buy wider tires.

I run 225/45's Dunlop WinterSport M2's on my stock wheels. I run 225/45 Toyo Proxes 4's on my Enkei's. I drove all winter long on my stock wheels and 225's and had no issues at all. I don't think going an wider than a 225 is a good idea, but I don't see any problems with a 225 on stock wheels.
BTW, I think the stock wheels are 7" wide.

No, danny, they are 6" wide unless you have an acr. then they are 16X7. The stock wheels are 17x6 and lilsparkplug is absolutely right. A 225 is definitely not recomended on a 6" rim like our stocker. There will be a lot of roll, and the bead will not seat properly. If you have to make a sudden emercency turn you could have big problems. You'll be fine if nothing unexpected happens, but if you have to jerk it hard, it could be bad. You will also have no performance gain, since there will be so much roll in the sidewall, so what is the point?
Look at the way your sidewalls balloon out from the rim. For drag racing this is okay, but otherwise is a bad idea if you like to take a lot of hard corners.

Olies definitely rolling today! lmao. Yup yup no 225ers......not good. A 215 isnt even recommended by the BFG technical manual for any rim narrower than SEVEN inches. Which is why we have 205s. Why they couldnt just make the wheel wider to support wider tires for the amount of torque our little FWD beast has...I will never know.

I stand corrected. I could have sworn the stockers were 7" wide, but apparently I'm wrong. That being said, I have made several "jerk it hard" moves on my winter tires and had no ill effects. I drive my car like I stole it, and have never had any issues. My winter tires didn't look like they were bulged out at all.
