I was tinkering around in the car the other night and I tried a WOT shift. As you might guess, it didn't work like I wanted it to. I tried going from first to second doing it, but kind of wimped out and did it at a half open throttle. However, on my second to third shift, I decided to leave it wide open. Well,,,,,I missed third gear because I was trying too hard and attempting to do it too quickly. Now, as soon as I missed it, I immediately backed off, so as not to over rev. It didn't *seem* to over rev, but I am wondering, does the limiter keep you from damging the car if you do that and miss a gear? I am guessing it does, because that's why it is called a rev limiter, right?
From what I understand it only limits it electronically. With that said, lets say you were in 4th gear doin like 45 or 50 and you wanted to downshift into 3rd, well you put it in 1st by accident. Your motor is going to rev higher then 6500 (redline...not sure cause I don't have one) because you dropped it into first on accident. At least I'm pretty sure thats how it works, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Still possible to over rev.
I knew you could over rev, but I just wasn't sure what a rev limiter did. Maybe it only limits when you really over rev. Maybe it only limits when the hood flies off or something. I think I just need to practice more at WOTing, and then this wouldn't be an issue.

Stage 1 is meant for WOT shifts. It actually helps ALOT with them, and Im not too sure on shifting that way without it. The rev limiter does prevent you from "over-revving" persay. However, you can "bounce" off of it, which is repeatedly on the gas in too low of a gear bang the engine off the rev limiter.
If it were to happen on accident, I doubt it would cause any harm. But steal your "friends" SRT-4, you know the one that listens to Outkast all the time and wants Stage3R. Then WOT the **** out of his....then yours will be perfect for when you get the whole thing down pat like butter.

Sadly enough I have over revved mine once by accident. I had installed my booger bushings and they weren't quite on there just right. It shifted okay when you weren't ripping on it. However I was at the racetrack going for time so I was running it hard. Thats when I encountered problems of it not wanting to always go into gear because of the bushings. Well I put it in the wrong gear...which is hard to do. You basically have to force it in there. I'm sure my synchros weren't happy nor my engine because I'm sure it revved higher then redline. Soon as I realized what i had done...which was immediately after I did it I immediately hit the clutch and took it out of gear. All was well...but I wouldn't recommend doing it. I've only bounched it off the limiter (6750rpm) a few times because I wasn't watching my tach and the power didn't drop off so I didn't shift when I should have.

The MSD is a much more gentle rev limiter, it cuts spark instead of fuel. The only bad thing about this is the unburned air-fuel mix gets in the exhaust manifold where it is ignited, resulting in loud popping noises and flames shooting out the tail pipe. If streetfire ever gets my video optimized (uploaded it on Saturday [:@]) I'll post a link and you can hear the pops during gear shifts.

Edit: This was on my pump gas tune, what I run around on the street daily. The AVC-R was having some issues, boost would spike to 25, fall to ~20, and then climb and fluctuate between 21 and 23. On the street it comes up to 23psi and stays there. Could be the difference in load w/ the slicks vs the street tires. I will be turning the AVC-R Off at the strip and using a MBC to see if I can get it to run 23psi all the way across the RPM range. Should be good for another two tenths or so.
Anyway in the video, you can hear the popping exhaust as I am WOT shifting through all of the gears. My wife took the video and was sitting right at the 1/8th mile mark.
