'05 SRT-4
Hey everyone. I'm just about to hit 5000 miles on my black '05 SRT-4 and I'm starting to get the modding bug. I found the "If I had to start over" thread and it was very interesting about the order of mods. I had a couple of questions right quick about the car and what I might want to achieve with it.
First, I'd like to make sure that everything on the car as of now is running well:
1. How can I check for leaks? I'm not too worried about it since getting on the interstate I'm fairly certain I hit the 0-60 in under 6 mark, but I would like to make sure everything was solid. Also, if I have a leak problem, is the dealer the best place to take my car to get new pipes installed under warenty?
2. Where can I Dyno my car? I think there's a drag strip somewhere in this town, but who usually has the Dyno? Where should I look? How much SHOULD it cost to test my car?
3. I'm getting more used to the car and I can really push it now in the curves and taking off. However, my last car was a 98' Neon R/T so I still have a lot to learn about Turbos and such. Sometimes I'm just not feeling it, like the car is sick today or something. I paid attention when this happened and tried to find a pattern of what kind of gas I got, temperatures, how warmed up the car was, etc, and I just couldn't see any reason for it other than "some days the car doesn't run as well as others". Here's a list of what I put in it:
1. Mobil 1 0W-40 with Mobil 1 High Performance Oil Filter (after I did this I got 4 more miles per gallon!!)
2. 93 Octane from Coyboys or Texaco. Sometimes cowboys (the cheapest) runs out of 93 here, so I get the best (Texaco)
4. After reading a lot of posts on here and reading car and driver, I believe that the random pops and such that I hear from the steering or suspension are just normal. Also, I burned out once and heard a really loud pop somewhere, and I assumed I threw a rock into the wheel well. I believe C&D stated that this was part of it being built as a race car, not a quiet car. Should I be worried?
---- Mods:
I'm thinking about doing it this way:
The way I figure it, there's no point in upgrading air delivery if I don't get the stage1 at least. So, for my first round I'd like to just get these all together and spending more time pushing the car and getting better aquainted with it.
1. Mopar Stage 1 (maybe used)
2. Mopar/Borla Exhaust (Which downpipe would be a good idea at this point? Should I go bigger than this?)
3. K&N Generation II FIPK (Is this any good or should I go AEM?)
4. Mopar BOV plate OR go all the way with Greddy RS. (I'm not sure if I want to pay all that much more at this stage)
5. OCCs.
In any case, I fully intend to go all the way to Stage 3R eventually with all the fixins, but I don't think it would be very responsible for me to just jump right there with little experience. I also want to get some autocrossing in before I put that much power to the wheels.
Thanks for your time!

1. build a leak tester. go to home depot and raid the pumbing section. get a 2.5" to 3" coupler and a plastic insert that fits on the 2.5" side. then get a valve from a bike store, drill a hole in the plastic insert and pop it in place. remove your intake and put the tester in place. get an air compressor and pump in air until you hit about 20psi (have someone watching the boost gauge). release the compressor and listen for leaks. i can just about guarantee you're leaking. everyone is. you don't need to go to dodge for new pipes. just tighten the clamps.
2. performance shops have dynos. if you don't know where to find one you can go to dynojet's website and you should be able to do a search in your area of shops that have one. you can also try asking the other owners in your area, or any muscle guys that you might run into a local meets/shows, or where ever.
3. probably weather related.
4. i'll be honest, i'm not sure what you're asking.
mods:
if you're planning on stage 3 forget the borla and get a 3" turboback. you'll just have to upgrade later.
the k&n is ok, but the jmb, psi-fi, or agp are better choices imo.
the mopar rice place leaks. get a real bov. some will disagree, but that's my experience.
good luck finding a used stage 1 for an 05. the stage kits are year specific for 05, you can't use one from a 03 or 04.
