Default Launch Techinques

Hello all, I just recently purchased a 2004 SRT and am in love with it! Though, car payments and insurance I am not!

I have a question out there for all those who have "raced" their cars, or at least have driven them hard... what RPM are you guys (and girls) launching your cars at? I haven't really tried it much, but want to get an idea. I know you don't want too much on the Rev's cause you'll just annhilate those expensive tires, but... any info? getting times in the low 14's or high 13's requires a good launch.

thanks for the insight! [8D]

My car has around the whopping number of 800 miles on it (which I realize is not a lot, and do not plan on terrorizing the car for another few hundred miles - hehe).

Don't get me wrong, I realize the car is still "breaking" in and such, but I have a lot of people who want to challenge the little ride, and a proper launch will help! In other cars I have owned or driven, around the 2000 rpm range offers an effective launch RPM and minimizes tire spin... just depends on the car I suppose. My car is totally stock... heck, I don't even have the actual license plate for it yet - it is THAT new!

Yeah, for sure don't abuse it right now...like the owners manual says, high rev first gear launches are to be avoided during the break in period. Also, are you aware the computer in your SRT-4 will increase the power the engine puts out after the break in period? So, what works now for "mild" launches won't necessarily work 1000 miles or so from now. You'll have to adjust your technique if you add certain mods as well, like Stage 1, Stage 2, custom intake and exhaust, different suspension, different rims, different tires (the 03s and 04s have the same size, but different brands), etc....In short, you may have to "experiment" on blowing away as many ricers as you can...tough job, but somebody's got to do it...[sm=smiley36.gif]

Congrats on ya New Car. i AGRRE WITH DUSTY... take ya time breakin-it-in. i launch mine during races, depending on the surface, around 2000-2200 rpm's. I still have the sticky factory tires and sometimes wheel hop occurs...

Do all cars have that computer adjustment that Dusty talks about. I haven't stomped on my hemi yet but I've thought it doenst feel like its got all that much. Will it get significantly better when the odemetr crosses a certain point?

Welcome to the SRT-4 club SRT_YA.[sm=smiley32.gif] Are you getting regular tags for it or personalized? I haven't had the chance to try launching techniques with mine yet due to rain.[sm=smiley19.gif]Street and strip conditions are alot different, so you will need to learn both if you intend to run on both.[sm=smiley2.gif]This weekend is supose to be extra nice, so maybe I'll get the chance. Last weekend was also fairly decent, but saturday morning I installed my Mopar Performance BOV and got to destroy a riced up late 90's Integra Type-R with the big wing, wheels & tires, coffee can muffler, decals/stickers, etc. and it had a few Mexicans in it. I blew by it and another car at the same time and they didn't even stand a chance, it was great fun.[sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley4.gif][sm=smiley16.gif]
