Default <Reliability>

Hi guys,im planning to buy an srt-4(obviously) in the upcoming weeks. My question is,is this car reliable? Is it an everyday car? Im asking this because i drive an average of 1500 miles a month, mostly on the highway. This car looks fun to drive and the sound is to die for,but my main concern is reliability >.< .

Edit-im thinking of buying used one, from '03 most likely.

Reliability they're awesome. Mine....is a bad little apple however, and probably the only one like it. [:'(]

If you live in an area where it snows just plan on getting some new tires for the season. Other than that, the car is awesome, and youll find yourself driving more than 1500 miles a month....just because.

it's a great car. but be warned, if you mod it you will run into potential problems. it's the nature of the game. stock they're great, no problems that aren't easily fixable, just like any other car. just a whole lot more fun to drive!

I have modded mine a bit. Stage 2 + toys and a bit more. In 16 months of driving, I have clocked over 26000 miles and have not had a serious problem yet. Had one bad axle which was replaced in a 1.5 hour visit under warranty. Had one bad boost gauge which was also replaced in under an hour under warranty. The car just goes and goes.

One suggestion - if you plan to mod it, find a dealer that will support you - and in general, find a dealer that has a service bay familiar with the srt-4. There are a lot of bad dealers out there. (BTW - that goes for all manufacturers, not just dodge) My dealer is fantastic and I have confidence in them.

My SRT-4 will be 2 years old in a few weeks and has been in the shop once for a air temp sensor that literally blew off of the air intake (the car still ran, but the dealer advised against driving it). This was after I had the Stage 1, the Mopar Borla exhaust and the K&N filter installed. The dealer fixed it under warranty with no questions.

Both of my headlight lens cracked this past spring. I checked the other SRT forum and there were many people who had the same problem so I made copies of their postings and took them along with the car to the dealer. The headlights were replaced at no cost to me.

Your dealer can make your SRT-4 experience either good or bad. Pick one carefully. Check the BBB and look for a 5 star dealer. Overall, I'd say the car is as reliable as any other American brand. The "fun factor" makes it a blast to own. Treat it as you would any high performance car, meaning regular oil changes with synthetic oil are a must.

very reliable car, ive had mine for a lil over a month and already put over 3000 miles on it. as for reliability, i drive 86 miles almost every day for school and driving it there and back are what i look forward to all day, only problem i have is the TPS when it gets hot, which can be handled by warrenty. i must fore-warn you, there are alot of neon bashers out there so be ready for it. just tell them if they think its "just a neon" have them try and keep up on the highway. i dont think a car thats "just a neon" can go 150+MPH stock. i say if u like the car get it, afterwards you'll LOVE the car

One of the (few) great things about getting older is that my friends are getting older as well. In the two years I've had the car, not one of my friends has realized it's a souped-up Neon. The younger folks know what it is, but not many folks over 40 can ID it. Of course adding some visual mods like different taillights, Stage 1 badge, and a couple of "speed enhancing" decals helps to keep them guessing.

What REALLY gets their attention is the window sticker which I saved showing the price!!!

The neon bashing goes on and on forever. It wasn't so bad when I first bought mine about 4 months ago, but now it gets bad. I was at a party the other night where some guy told me NEON stands for never ever own a neon. He then proceeded to tell me his '82 Stock Z28 could beat my "little neon" and told me there was nothing worse than chicks and neons. . . needless to say I won $100 bucks and made fun of him the rest of the night for getting beat by "just a little girl with her little neon"

You just have to learn to get over it and other people will too!!
